Job Description
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a qualified and professional Pharmacist – The Verge to deliver high-quality pharmaceutical care. The role is accountable for meeting patients’ medicine-related needs through accurate dispensing, professional advice, and adherence to all legal and ethical standards.
Minimum Requirements
Essential
-
Grade 12 / Matric
-
BPharm or equivalent qualification
-
Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
-
Minimum 2–3 years’ pharmaceutical experience
-
2–3 years’ retail pharmacy experience (including student/intern exposure)
-
Computer literate (MS Office)
Advantageous

Relevant retail or FMCG experience
-
Proficiency in a third language
-
SAP system experience
-
E-scripting experience
-
Registered tutor status
-
Unisolv system experience
Duties and Responsibilities
-
Provide comprehensive pharmaceutical care and assume responsibility for patients’ medicine-related needs
-
Evaluate therapy for indication, safety, and effectiveness
-
Dispense medicines and scheduled substances in accordance with prescriptions and legislation
-
Check and sign off prescriptions prepared by assistants or interns, ensuring compliance with GPP standards
-
Provide accurate information and counselling on medicine usage
-
Monitor patient compliance and conduct follow-ups where required
-
Initiate pharmacist-led therapy within scope of practice
-
Compound, prepare, package, and supervise the handling of medicines and scheduled substances
-
Manage procurement, storage, distribution, and sale of medicines in line with regulatory requirements
-
Interpret prescriptions accurately and ensure correct capturing of script and patient details
-
Ensure accurate picking, packing, labelling, and checking of medication, including awareness of dosages and interactions
-
Advise patients at the dispensary, self-medication counter, and front shop
-
Process medical aid claims accurately and resolve rejected scripts
-
Manage chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medication authorisations
-
Maintain and update customer profiles, including profile merging where required
-
Support the Dispensary Manager with administrative, stock control, and reporting duties
-
Monitor stock levels, facilitate bi-annual stock takes, and ensure asset and cash control
-
Maintain housekeeping standards and comply with Dis-Chem policies, procedures, and SOPs
-
Adhere to health, safety, uniform, and personal appearance standards
