Job Description
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a professional and vigilant Security Guard to deliver effective security services in line with the Private Security Industry Regulations Act 56 of 2001, as amended. The role is responsible for safeguarding Dis-Chem assets, property, staff, and customers by maintaining a safe and secure environment, preventing criminal activity, and responding appropriately to security incidents while adhering to legal requirements and best practices.
Minimum Requirements
Essential
-
Grade 12 / Matric or Senior Certificate
-
Grade C PSIRA accreditation
-
PSIRA registration
-
Minimum of 3 years’ exposure in the retail environment, including shopping malls or warehouses
Advantageous
-
At least 1 year of previous experience in a similar security role
Key Responsibilities
-
Maintain high levels of alertness and vigilance to identify and respond to suspicious activity
-
Conduct regular patrols of the premises to ensure visibility and reduce security risks
-
Control and monitor access points for staff, customers, suppliers, and vehicles
-
Enforce access control procedures, including staff and supplier searches
-
Investigate, report, and respond to incidents of damage, theft, or unlawful entry
-
Act as a visible deterrent to prevent theft, damage, injury, and other criminal acts
-
Maintain accurate security registers, occurrence books, and reports
-
Supervise refuse removal in line with Dis-Chem standards
-
Protect company assets against loss, theft, and malicious behaviour
-
Remain present and attentive at the assigned post while on duty
-
Provide professional and courteous service to all customers, visitors, and employees
-
Report all suspicious or unusual behaviour by staff, customers, or suppliers
-
Support opening and closing procedures by ensuring doors, windows, and access points are secure
-
Conduct personnel frisking and vehicle searches as required
-
Monitor alarm systems, CCTV, and emergency equipment
-
Respond promptly and correctly to emergencies, incidents, or crises
-
Contact emergency services and law enforcement when legally required
-
Assist with evacuation procedures and maintain order during emergencies
-
Provide ongoing security advice and safety guidance to staff and management
-
Enforce company rules and regulations to prevent security breaches
-
Compile detailed written and verbal incident reports
-
Perform additional security-related duties in line with company procedures
Competencies
Essential

Strong knowledge of PSIRA regulations and security procedures

Fire emergency response and health and safety awareness

Proficient in English, with the ability to read, write, and speak clearly

High level of integrity, alertness, and professionalism
