Casual Cashier
Dischem Vacancies is building a talent pool of Casual Cashiers for their Meadowale store. This initiative ensures a readily available group of pre-screened individuals with the skills, qualifications, and attributes suited for future opportunities within Dis-Chem Pharmacies.
Purpose of the Role
Support point-of-sale operations while delivering a world-class shopping experience. Accurately record customer transactions on the Dis-Chem operating system, adhering strictly to company policies and procedures to prevent errors and eliminate fraud risk.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service & Sales Support
- Provide professional and friendly service to all customers
- Build and maintain positive customer relationships
- Report compliments and complaints to the Frontline Supervisor or store management
- Stay aware of current sales, promotions, and hourly customer turnover targets
Point of Sale Operations
- Accurately process all transactions, including cash, cards, vouchers, coupons, and other approved methods
- Process loyalty cards, including accelerator partner programs
- Ensure all line voids and price changes are approved and documented by a supervisor
- Handle merchandise exchanges and returns as authorized
Cash Handling & Security
- Take responsibility for cash flow and till accuracy
- Place cash in drop safes according to SOPs
- Maintain security of personal till codes and passwords
- Ensure all outgoing stock, items, and prescriptions are scanned and paid for
- Handle daily takings confidentially and in line with management instructions
- Be alert and report any suspicious behavior to management
Compliance & Risk Control
- Adhere to all Dis-Chem customer service, security, and operational procedures
- Ensure the safety of colleagues and customers at all times
Minimum Requirements
Essential
- Grade 12 / Matric
- Minimum of 6 months’ experience in cashier or till operations
- Computer literate, including MS Office
- Strong numerical skills with high accuracy
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills
- Basic customer service skills
- Willing and able to work retail hours
