Diesel Mechanic – Value Logistics

Purpose of the Job
The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for performing all maintenance and repair work on commercial vehicles according to job cards and manufacturer specifications. The role ensures vehicles are serviced efficiently, faults are identified and resolved, and repairs are completed to the highest safety and operational standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct visual inspections and onboard diagnostics during pre-assessment of vehicles
• Review workshop job cards to ensure accuracy and full understanding of required tasks
• Adhere to flat-rate repair guidelines
• Attend to both office-hour and after-hour breakdowns
• Sign off completed job cards accurately
• Ensure all parts used, including engine oils and consumables, are correctly booked to job cards
• Prepare equipment and parts for service bays prior to work commencement
• Perform maintenance services according to manufacturer specifications and maintenance schedules
• Carry out inspections, calibrations, adjustments, and other technical checks
• Identify irregularities, unusual wear, or deviations and report to the Workshop Foreman
• Reset maintenance systems following internal procedures
• Inspect dismantled parts and replace with new or reconditioned components where required
• Return unusable parts to suppliers and document all work carried out
• Compare vehicle condition against standard production configurations to assess technical reliability
• Conduct final checks using testing and measuring equipment to ensure vehicles are fully repaired, roadworthy, and reliable
• Maintain professional conduct and adhere to company dress code standards
• Assist with operational tasks as required
• Uphold daily housekeeping and maintain health and safety standards in the workshop

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 (Matric)
• Trade-tested Commercial Vehicle Diesel Technician

Skills Required

• Ability to apply technical and business principles within own work area
• Strong understanding of vehicle usage patterns and basic diagnostic inference
• Capable of dealing directly with customers regarding own work area
• Ability to identify hazards and follow health and safety procedures under supervision
• Competence in implementing maintenance and operational standards effectively
