Purpose of the Role
The Artisan Instrument Mechanician is responsible for monitoring and maintaining machinery to ensure safe, reliable, and sustainable operations. The role involves troubleshooting, diagnosing equipment for emergency repairs, and carrying out preventive maintenance routines to support business continuity.
Key Responsibilities

Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair on plant/mine equipment and systems.

Use plant maintenance and planning documentation systems effectively.

Apply knowledge of plant-specific processes and equipment.

Ensure compliance with Safety Management Systems (IMS, MBO, etc.).

Conduct hazard identification and task risk assessments.
-
Participate in morning meetings, root cause analyses (RCAs), and risk assessments.
-
Provide feedback to supervisors and planning officers on progress.
-
Maintain good housekeeping and adhere to waste disposal procedures.
-
Mentor junior artisans and learners, sharing technical knowledge.
-
Take the lead in team efforts and act as group leader when required.

Contribute to the overall maintenance strategy and plant sustainability.

Attend toolbox talks, PDAs, and RCAs to improve plant safety and stability.

Ensure accurate history feedback is captured for renewals and upgrades.
Minimum Requirements
-
Matric/N3 with Mathematics, English, and Physical Science

Occupational Trade Certificate (Red Seal) as an Artisan Instrument Mechanician
-
Valid driver’s licence
-
Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience
