Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking Casual Merchandisers for their Mall of Africa store. The goal is to create a strategic talent pool, ensuring a ready and pre-screened group of individuals with the right skills, qualifications, and attributes for future job opportunities within Dis-Chem Pharmacies.

Purpose of the Role: As a Casual Merchandiser, you will be responsible for ensuring that Dis-Chem’s basic merchandising standards are met and maintained. Additionally, you will play a key role in delivering excellent customer service.

Minimum Requirements:

Essential:

  • Grade 12 / Matric

  • Up to 6 months of retail experience

  • Computer literate – MS Office

  • Willing and able to work retail hours

Advantageous:

  • At least 1 year of retail experience

Job Description:

  • Restock merchandise as needed to ensure maximum sales

  • Ensure that delivered stock and stock pulled from the storeroom are stored and packed in the correct location promptly

  • Regularly check that stock on shelves has not passed its sell-by date

  • Ensure the full range of products is available on shelves at all times

  • Facilitate regular rotation of stock on a FIFO (First In, First Out) basis

  • Report low stock levels, out-of-stock items, damaged stock, and expired stock to management

  • Assist with counting stock files and conducting general stocktaking

  • Adhere to Dis-Chem’s operating standards, store layout, and planograms

  • Ensure boxes are flattened after unpacking stock and placed in the designated area

  • Ensure front shop shelves and products are presented neatly and clearly visible with correct labels and pricing

  • Report any price discrepancies to management

  • Stay up to date with new products and current stock

  • Build, face up, stock, and maintain merchandising displays

  • Maintain daily upkeep of store and merchandise displays, including responsibility for designated stock in both the storeroom and on the shop floor

  • Assist with the loading and offloading of stock

  • Clearly mark items without barcodes

  • Assist with back shopping tasks as required

  • Help train new staff members

  • Provide friendly, helpful, and courteous assistance and advice to all customers

  • Follow up on all out-of-stock queries from customers in line with the customer service out-of-stock list

  • Ensure all customer stock queries are handled and resolved

  • Always wear the correct uniform and badge

  • Minimize any losses by handling all merchandise carefully

  • Adhere to Dis-Chem policies and procedures, SOPs, and health and safety regulations

Competencies:

Essential:

  • Strong command of the English language

  • Presentable appearance

  • Effective communication with customers, management, and staff

  • Trustworthy and honest

  • Good time management skills

Advantageous:

  • Bilingual

  • Knowledge of merchandising standards and the FMCG industry

  • Product and category knowledge

  • Ability to analyze ZMORE reports for ordering and stocktaking

  • Report any suspicious or inappropriate behavior by staff or customers

Special Conditions of Employment:

  • Willing and able to work retail hours

  • Physically fit to lift and move heavy boxes while adhering to health and safety standards

  • Reliable transport and/or reside near the store

  • South African citizen

  • Clear credit and criminal records
