Dischem Vacancies – Casual Merchandiser

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for a Casual Merchandiser for their Jeffrey’s Bay store. The role involves ensuring that Dis-Chem’s merchandising standards are consistently maintained while also delivering excellent customer service.

Minimum Requirements:

Essential:

  • Grade 12 / Matric

  • Up to 6 months of retail experience

  • Computer literate – MS Office

  • Willing and able to work retail hours

Advantageous:

  • At least 1 year of retail experience

Job Description:

  • Restock merchandise as needed to maximize sales

  • Ensure stock delivered or pulled from the storeroom is stored and packed in the correct space promptly

  • Regularly check that stock on shelves has not passed its sell-by date

  • Ensure a full range of products is available on shelves at all times

  • Facilitate the rotation of stock on a regular FIFO (First In, First Out) basis

  • Report low stock levels, out-of-stock items, damaged stock, and expired stock to management

  • Assist with counting stock files and conducting general stocktaking

  • Adhere to Dis-Chem’s operating standards, store layout, and planograms

  • Flatten and remove boxes after unpacking stock and ensure they are taken to the designated area

  • Ensure shelves and products are neatly presented and visible, with correct labels and pricing at all times

  • Report any price discrepancies to management

  • Stay up to date with current and new products

  • Ensure merchandising displays are properly built, faced up, stocked, and maintained

  • Maintain the daily physical upkeep of the store and merchandise displays

  • Be responsible for designated stock in the storeroom as well as on the shop floor

  • Assist with loading and offloading stock

  • Ensure that items without barcodes are clearly marked

  • Assist with back shopping when needed

  • Aid in training new staff members

  • Provide friendly, helpful, and courteous customer assistance and advice

  • Follow up on all out-of-stock queries from customers, in line with the customer service out-of-stock list

  • Ensure all customer stock queries are handled and resolved

  • Wear the correct uniform and badge at all times

  • Minimize losses by handling merchandise carefully

  • Adhere to Dis-Chem policies and procedures, SOPs, and health and safety regulations

Competencies:

Essential:

  • Strong command of the English language

  • Presentable appearance

  • Effective communication and engagement with customers, management, and staff

  • Trustworthy and honest

  • Good time management skills

Advantageous:

  • Bilingual

  • Knowledge of merchandising standards and the FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods) industry

  • Product and category knowledge

  • Ability to analyze ZMORE reports for ordering and stocktaking

  • Report any suspicious behavior by staff or customers

Special Conditions of Employment:

  • Ability to work retail hours

  • Physically fit to lift and move heavy boxes while ensuring health and safety standards

  • Reliable transport and/or reside close to the store

  • South African citizen

  • Clear credit and criminal records
