Job Description
The purpose of the Category Manager position is to drive turnover, increase market share, and maximize SPAR DC and retailer profitability through strategic planning, purchasing, and sales initiatives, in alignment with retail and DC requirements.

Key Performance Areas

  • Drive and achieve DC and retail sales and profitability targets

  • Negotiate competitive pricing and manage retail margins to align with budget and competitors

  • Collaborate with suppliers, retailers, and DC teams to enhance retailer loyalty and competitive advantage

  • Develop and execute regional promotions to increase retail volume through the DC

  • Manage supplier service levels, ensuring efficiency in areas such as order fill, stock availability, stock turn, and stock distribution

  • Full accountability for category management

  • Build and maintain strategic business relationships with suppliers and retail store managers

  • Drive product development, innovation, and sales initiatives

  • Assist retailers with store standards, ranging, pricing, and in-store promotions

  • Lead and support a team

Minimum Requirements

  • Matric

  • Marketing or Purchasing related Degree/Diploma

  • Minimum of 3 years of retail/FMCG experience in a marketing role

  • Experience in sales and managing customer relationships

  • Background in buying and category management

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills

  • Comprehensive knowledge of buying systems and processes

  • In-depth knowledge of supermarket product range requirements

  • Financial acumen, leadership skills, and attention to detail

  • Strong drive, initiative, and the ability to resolve business challenges in a high-pressure environment
