Rand Water Vacancies – Chief Executive Officer
Job Purpose
Rand Water Services, a subsidiary of Rand Water, is seeking a highly experienced Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Reporting to both Rand Water and the Rand Water Services Board, the CEO will provide strategic direction, leadership, and accountability for the company’s operations. The role is critical in ensuring compliance with shareholder mandates while driving financial sustainability, operational excellence, and innovative water and sanitation solutions.
Minimum Requirements

Essential: A recognised degree at NQF Level 8 in Commerce, Accounting, Engineering Sciences, Natural Sciences, or equivalent.

Desired: A Master’s degree in Business, Engineering, or Public Administration (MBA, MBL, MSc, or equivalent at NQF Level 9).

Professional Membership: Recognised membership with a relevant professional body (e.g. ECSA, SACNASP, SAICE, IODSA).

Experience: At least 15 years in strategic leadership and senior management, preferably in a related environment such as water, utilities, or infrastructure.

Preferred: 3–5 years’ proven track record at Executive and Board level, with experience in business development or establishing enterprises.
Key Responsibilities

Lead Rand Water Services to fulfil its mandate under the Companies Act, Water Services Act, and other legislative frameworks.

Develop and implement long-term strategy, business plans, and operating models aligned with shareholder objectives and the Balanced Scorecard.

Advise the Board on strategic direction, performance, and sustainability of the subsidiary.

Drive growth initiatives in areas such as water re-use, demand management, catchment management, bulk infrastructure, and municipal support services.

Champion organizational innovation to create sustainable water and sanitation solutions while attracting infrastructure investments and leveraging Public-Private Partnerships (PPP).

Strengthen RWS’s profile as a leading professional service provider.

Engage stakeholders to maintain shareholder confidence and business efficiency.

Oversee change management, risk mitigation, and alignment with environmental and operational demands.

Support national and regional government initiatives, including Africa-focused water missions.

Drive digital innovation, forecasting, and scenario planning for future water and sanitation services.
