Job Description
Standard Bank Careers is seeking a knowledgeable Data Protection Specialist to support the Data Protection Officer in implementing business and country-specific data privacy strategies. The role focuses on ensuring compliance with data protection regulations while safeguarding both client information and the organisation from potential data privacy risks.
The Data Protection Specialist will conduct assessments and analyses related to evolving data privacy legislation, identify potential compliance gaps, and assist in developing risk mitigation strategies. The role also involves preparing reports to guide decision-making and ensuring that data protection practices are aligned with regulatory requirements.
In addition, the Data Protection Specialist will provide administrative support for Data Subject Access Requests (DSAR), Records of Processing Activities (ROPA), and Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), ensuring that processes are handled efficiently and in compliance with relevant legislation.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualification
• Data Protection Practitioner Certificate or a similar professional qualification
Experience
• 3–5 years of experience within Data and Analytics
• Strong knowledge of data privacy regulations and governance, preferably within financial institutions
• Experience managing data protection requirements involving legal, regulatory, and information technology considerations
• Understanding of cross-border data privacy regulations and compliance frameworks
• Experience driving automation and continuous improvement of systems and data management platforms
• Knowledge of audit processes and the ability to support privacy assessments, audits, and regulatory reviews while identifying and mitigating compliance gaps
Key Responsibilities
• Maintain, implement, and enhance governance processes by staying updated on regulatory and compliance policy changes affecting the bank
• Ensure the organisation remains aligned with the broader policies and standards of the Standard Bank Group
• Provide guidance and best-practice advice on data privacy to stakeholders within the legal entity to support regulatory compliance
• Investigate, analyse, and interpret system information to support reporting tools and data privacy monitoring processes
• Contribute to staff training and awareness initiatives to ensure employees understand data privacy policies, tools, and procedures
• Analyse and interpret the Data Privacy strategy to translate regulatory requirements into practical business processes, procedures, and reporting frameworks
• Support the development of dashboards, reporting tools, and analytical insights that enable informed strategic decision-making
• Oversee and provide administrative support for the management of data subject rights in line with applicable data protection legislation
