About the Role:
Pepkor is seeking a highly capable Department Manager to lead the Collections Department, ensuring the credit book operates within the company’s policies and regulatory requirements. This role focuses on maximizing profitability, maintaining delinquency and charge-off targets, and developing a motivated, high-performing team.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Management:
- Operate within the guidelines of the Credit and Collections Policy, National Credit Act (NCA), and Debt Collectors Act (DCA).
- Manage inbound and outbound calling strategies to optimize efficiency and effectiveness.
- Meet productivity targets while mitigating delinquencies and charge-offs.
- Establish management and performance controls to identify issues, contain costs, and implement process improvements.
- Resolve disputes with customers or internal departments related to receivables and risk management.
- Submit receivable reports to senior management regularly.
- Analyse delinquency data against industry trends and economic conditions to enhance collections results.
- Collaborate with the new business department to improve credit quality.
- Review and approve the monthly Charge Off Schedule and maintain accurate customer documentation.
- Stay updated on relevant legislation and participate in trade and credit groups to enhance credit knowledge.
- Execute ad-hoc projects and responsibilities as assigned.
Team Leadership & People Management:
- Manage a team of Collections Team Managers, promoting a high-performance, customer-focused culture.
- Implement strategic objectives through effective recruitment, training, motivation, and evaluation of staff.
- Conduct regular team meetings to ensure communication, collaboration, and productivity.
- Mentor and coach team members, updating career growth plans and ensuring clear, realistic targets.
- Manage non-performance, probation, and disciplinary processes in line with company policies.
- Oversee absenteeism, ESS/Sage leave transactions, and payroll-related management of waybills, overtime, and special time.
- Foster effective collaboration across teams and departments to optimize departmental efficiency.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Grade 12.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Team Manager role.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Department Manager.
- BComm in Management or Diploma in Credit Management is advantageous.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Excellent knowledge of collections processes, credit management, and regulatory compliance.
- Ability to analyze data, implement process improvements, and resolve disputes effectively.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to motivate, mentor, and develop high-performing teams.
