Dischem Vacancies – Dispensary Manager

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a qualified and experienced Dispensary Manager for their Weskus Mall store. The primary responsibility of this role is to manage and supervise the dispensary, including the self-medication area and staff. The Dispensary Manager will ensure the provision of pharmaceutical care, taking responsibility for patients’ medication-related needs and ensuring these needs are met efficiently and accurately.

Requirements:

Essential:

  • Grade 12 / Matric

  • BPharm or equivalent qualification

  • Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)

  • Registered tutor

  • Experience in supervising staff

  • Proficient in MS Office

  • Sound numerical skills

  • Strong command of the English language and a second language

  • Willingness and ability to work retail hours

Advantageous:

  • Previous management experience of at least 7 staff members

  • Relevant retail/FMCG experience

  • Proficiency in a third additional language

  • SAP experience

  • E-scripting experience

Duties and Responsibilities:

Dispensary Management:

  • Ensure the dispensary and self-medication areas are adequately staffed, with staff working within their scope of practice.

  • Ensure compliance with Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP) rules and regulations.

  • Regularly monitor and ensure no expired or short-dated stock is held.

  • Dispose of expired stock properly and ensure it is kept separate from usable stock.

  • Investigate and manage negative stock daily.

  • Prepare for stocktakes in advance to ensure accurate reporting.

  • Follow the stock ordering process to maintain maximum purchasing compliance.

  • Manage stock levels to ensure availability and compliance.

  • Ensure Schedule 6 medication is securely locked away, and the register is balanced quarterly.

  • Ensure SAPC registration and annual fees are maintained up to date.

Pharmaceutical Care:

  • Accurately interpret prescriptions and adhere to legal requirements in line with the SAPC.

  • Capture script details and verify patient information accurately in the system.

  • Ensure the accurate picking, packing, labeling, and checking of medications.

  • Be aware of common dosages and important drug interactions.

  • Provide clear instructions to patients regarding the proper use of prescribed medications.

  • Stay updated on changes in medical aid procedures and claims requirements.

  • Explain medical aid costs to patients and assist in processing claims.

  • Ensure the authorization of chronic, HIV, AIDS, and oncology medications.

  • Maintain accurate customer profiles on the system and merge profiles as needed.

  • Act on any relevant messages in customer profiles.

Staff Supervision and Training:

  • Ensure the Dispensary Admin Assistant is well-trained and manages the majority of dispensary administration tasks.

  • Lead by example, offering support, guidance, and training to staff members.

  • Promote conflict management and foster a cooperative team environment.

  • Monitor staff performance and ensure adherence to policies and procedures.

Competencies:

Essential:

  • Strong command of the English language and a second language (read, write, and speak)

  • Excellent communication and listening skills

  • Knowledge of basic dosing and drug interactions

  • Strong customer service orientation

  • Supervisor experience with the ability to lead by example

  • Ability to train and mentor staff

  • Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills

  • Sound numerical skills

  • Time management and the ability to work under pressure

  • Trustworthy, honest, and a strong team player

  • Computer literate – MS Office

Advantageous:

  • Knowledge of Retail/FMCG operations

  • Proficiency in a third additional language

  • Experience with Unisolv, SAP, and e-scripting

  • Knowledge of drug and family planning, and complementary medicine

Special Conditions of Employment:

  • Ability to work in controlled environments with health and safety considerations

  • Physically fit and able to stand for long periods

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transport
