Value Vacancies – Driver Trainer

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Driver Trainer to join our team. This role is critical to ensuring that all company drivers operate vehicles safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with relevant standards and regulations. The Driver Trainer will deliver structured training programs, assess driver competencies, and support continuous improvement in driver performance.

Purpose of the Role

The Driver Trainer is responsible for delivering both theoretical and practical training to new and existing drivers. Key duties include developing and conducting training sessions, maintaining accurate training records, ensuring compliance with safety protocols, and evaluating driver performance through route assessments and audits. The successful candidate will also support operational functions and promote a culture of safety and professionalism within the driver workforce.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate the skills of both new and current drivers

  • Deliver scheduled training sessions on soft skills and lifting equipment

  • Communicate training plans with management and ensure adherence

  • Provide one-on-one coaching to enhance driver competency

  • Conduct on-road driver assessments to ensure performance standards are met

  • Verify that all driver licenses and PrDPs are current and valid

  • Maintain accurate attendance records and driver training files on the learning management system

  • Provide feedback to stakeholders after assessments

  • Capture training and assessment data in internal systems

  • Facilitate accredited training programs in line with TETA scope and standards

  • Conduct fair and consistent learner assessments as per TETA guidelines

  • Deliver training in accessible language and provide additional support where needed

  • Perform site audits and route inspections to ensure vehicles meet safety requirements

  • Assist with vehicle dispatch and other operational duties as necessary

  • Adhere to professional conduct standards, including uniform and personal presentation

  • Maintain cleanliness and safety standards in work areas

  • Uphold company health and safety protocols at all times

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 (Matric)

  • Valid Code EC driver’s license with a current PrDP

  • Proven track record as a driving instructor

  • Clean driving and criminal records

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Demonstrated patience and a professional attitude

  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends when needed

  • Registered TETA Assessor

  • At least 5 years of experience operating Code EC vehicles

  • Competency in the following unit standards:

    • Operating Superlink and Articulated vehicles

    • Operating rigid heavy and light vehicles

    • Dangerous goods transportation

    • Use of warehouse lifting equipment

    • Basic firefighting
