Standard Bank is looking for an experienced and analytical Engineer, Performance to join the technology team based in Johannesburg, South Africa. This role is focused on ensuring the speed, stability, and scalability of software systems through detailed performance testing and ongoing optimization efforts.

As a Performance Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and executing performance, load, and stress tests. You’ll also play a key role in benchmarking system performance, monitoring real-time metrics, conducting root cause analyses, and supporting capacity planning initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and conduct performance testing to evaluate system responsiveness and reliability

  • Execute load and stress testing to identify system limitations under high-demand scenarios

  • Benchmark application performance against industry standards and competitors

  • Implement and maintain performance monitoring tools and processes

  • Perform root cause analysis for performance issues and provide resolution strategies

  • Contribute to capacity planning and evaluate system scalability

  • Stay updated with the latest tools, technologies, and trends in performance engineering

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field

  • AWS Certified Developer Associate or Solutions Architect Associate (advantageous)

Experience Requirements

  • 5+ years in performance engineering or a similar role

  • Proficiency in writing and managing code beyond basic scripting

  • Solid understanding of system architecture and cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP)

  • Hands-on experience with web technologies, performance optimization, and monitoring tools

  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and collaborative development environments
