Standard Bank Careers – Engineer Platform

Standard Bank is seeking an experienced Engineer, Platform to manage the design, implementation, support, and continuous improvement of its SAS platform, covering both SAS 9.4 and SAS Viya environments. This role is key to ensuring the availability, performance, and security of the platform that underpins critical analytics and reporting processes across the organisation.

The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of SAS architecture, platform administration, and system performance, combined with strong Linux expertise and proven experience in AWS cloud environments. You will be responsible for driving operational excellence in platform management, contributing to digital transformation and cloud integration strategies.

Minimum qualifications and certifications

• A degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience

• AWS certification

• SAS platform administration or programming certifications

Required technical skills and experience

• Proficiency in Linux system administration, including shell scripting, system performance tuning, and troubleshooting

• Strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities

• Effective written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with internal teams and stakeholders

• Experience documenting technical procedures and system configurations

• Familiarity with Agile or DevOps practices

• Database knowledge, including technologies like PostgreSQL

• Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) experience preferred

• In-depth expertise in managing and supporting SAS 9.4 and SAS Viya environments

• Experience deploying SAS on AWS and integrating with cloud-native services

• Familiarity with other business intelligence tools is advantageous

Key responsibilities

• Administer and maintain SAS 9.4 and SAS Viya environments, including user access, security, and metadata management

• Plan and execute software installations, upgrades, and patches with minimal disruption

• Monitor system performance, address bottlenecks, and apply tuning strategies to maintain high platform efficiency

• Implement access controls, authentication protocols, and security policies to ensure data protection and compliance

• Manage the underlying Linux infrastructure that supports the SAS environments

• Design and manage integration of the SAS platform with AWS, ensuring scalable and secure cloud operations

• Provide ongoing support, troubleshooting, and resolution of issues impacting users and systems

• Maintain up-to-date documentation of configurations, procedures, and support guides
