FlySafair is looking for a skilled and detail-oriented FDM Program Specialist to manage and develop its Flight Data Monitoring (FDM) program. This role is central to ensuring the accuracy, security, and analysis of flight data, supporting operational safety and regulatory compliance across the airline.
Key Responsibilities

Maintain the integrity and confidentiality of the FDM database and address all flagged events through appropriate channels.

Develop, review, and maintain the FDM manual in line with regulatory and company requirements.

Manage confidential pilot interactions related to FDM findings, using in-house training resources and resolving human factors issues independently.

Collect and manage data from multiple sources including FDR, QAR, and ACM in accordance with applicable aviation regulations.

Ensure the accuracy and organisation of flight data to allow for efficient analysis and reporting.

Analyse data to identify patterns, trends, and anomalies, conducting thorough root cause analysis where required.

Produce and submit detailed reports on FDM findings to management, and provide structured feedback to pilots.

Support the Safety Department in investigations of incidents or accidents as necessary.

Collaborate with internal safety teams and regulatory bodies to resolve safety concerns and support compliance initiatives.

Prepare professional presentations and reports summarising key findings for the Manager: Aviation Safety.

Review and analyse LOSA audits, and recommend changes to safety standards and operational procedures.

Plan and conduct LOSA audits every three to five years, forming a Steering Committee and overseeing the training of LOSA Observers.

Lead regular meetings with the FDM Team and ensure the incorporation of international best practices into the program.

Maintain strong communication with the Chief Pilot, Training Department, and Technical teams to align on safety issues and recommendations.

Manage access to de-identified flight data by internal departments and the SACAA as needed.

Monitor and report on performance and safety metrics regularly, and assist in driving continuous safety improvements.

Work closely with operations, engineering, and maintenance teams to resolve issues identified through data analysis.
Minimum Requirements

Grade 12 or equivalent (Essential)
-
B737 type rating (current or expired) with a minimum of 1000 flight hours (Essential)

At least 3 years of experience in Flight Data Monitoring (Essential)

Strong understanding of both Normal and Non-Normal aircraft operations

In-depth knowledge of aviation safety regulations and compliance requirements

Proven experience with risk and safety management systems

Knowledge of training techniques and human factors in aviation

Familiarity with industry-standard aviation software and tools

Excellent analytical and communication skills

Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects with accuracy and attention to detail

Willingness to work outside of standard hours as operationally required
