Flysafair careers – First Officer
Flysafair is seeking a qualified and safety-focused First Officer to join our flight operations team. This position is responsible for supporting the Captain in ensuring the safe, efficient, and timely operation of flights, while maintaining compliance with all regulatory and company requirements. The role demands a high level of professionalism, sound judgment, and the ability to operate effectively in a multi-crew environment.
The First Officer will assist in pre-flight preparation, in-flight monitoring, and post-flight duties, while contributing to a strong culture of safety, operational discipline, and customer service excellence.
Responsibilities

Support the Captain in ensuring the overall safety of the flight, including monitoring aircraft systems and flight path.

Perform pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight duties in accordance with the Operations Manual and SOPs.

Ensure familiarity with flight briefing materials, including route, weather, runway conditions, and alternates.

Carry out all required checklists and procedures during normal, abnormal, and emergency situations.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of SACAA regulations, ICAO standards, and the FlySafair Operations Manual.

Take command in the event of the Captain’s incapacitation.

Monitor all flight parameters and communicate any deviations or irregularities to the Captain.

Conduct and monitor radio communications as needed.

Uphold a high level of crew discipline, conduct, and appearance, representing the company with professionalism.

Participate in audits and safety-related programs, including documentation and reporting through IQSMS.

Assist with planning decisions regarding fuel, alternates, and any operational restrictions.

Engage in continuous learning and support the professional development and morale of the crew.

Ensure full compliance with FCOM, FOM, and national aviation safety procedures.
Minimum Requirements
-
Grade 12 or equivalent.
-
SACAA Commercial Pilot License (essential).
-
SACAA ATPL (preferred).
-
Class 1 SACAA Medical Certificate (essential).
-
Minimum of 1500 total flight hours including at least 500 hours multi-turbine time (essential).

Multi-crew experience (essential).

Experience on commercial jets over 20 tons and Boeing type rating (advantageous).

No medical conditions that may interfere with aviation duties.

No criminal record and willing to undergo drug and alcohol testing.

Valid RSA driver’s license and own reliable transport.

Valid RSA passport.

Willing to sign a training bond if required.
-
Willing to work irregular hours according to a roster.

Must have strong knowledge of national and international aviation regulations (SACAA, ICAO).

Familiarity with Doc 8186 and ATPL content is required.

Must be willing to undergo psychometric assessments.
