The Forklift Technician is responsible for carrying out mechanical tasks related to forklift maintenance and repairs. This includes evaluating vehicles for defects, disassembling components, cleaning and assessing parts, assembling parts, and ensuring all repairs meet operational standards. The role also involves maintaining cleanliness, safety, and professional conduct in the workshop environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Inspect forklifts and related vehicles for general defects before beginning repairs

• Compile technical reports outlining the scope of required repairs

• List and request the necessary spare parts for repairs

• Dismantle vehicle components and clean parts to assess wear and damage

• Reassemble components using a combination of new and used parts

• Identify failure points in systems, consult with team leader or workshop foreman, and document findings on job cards

• Accurately list all performed tasks, parts used, and time spent per task on job cards

• Conduct services and repairs in accordance with original equipment specifications and scheduled maintenance

• Participate in standby or after-hours breakdown duties as required

• Maintain high levels of productivity and efficiency

• Provide guidance and training to repair shop assistants and semi-skilled staff

• Report any unsafe working conditions or faulty equipment to team leaders or foremen

• Adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures and company policies

• Assist in general operational duties as needed

• Uphold professional conduct and follow the prescribed company dress code

• Maintain workshop cleanliness and adhere to daily housekeeping standards

• Comply with all health and safety regulations

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 (Matric)

• Red Seal Qualification

• Minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience preferred
