About the Role
Dischem Vacancies is seeking a Front Shop Assistant for the Wynberg store. The successful candidate will maintain merchandising standards, ensure stock availability, and deliver excellent customer service at the point of sale in line with Dischem policies and procedures.
Minimum Requirements
Essential
- Grade 12 / Matric or Senior Certificate
- 0–6 months retail work experience
Advantageous
- 1 year retail experience
- Certification in Retail Business Management
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain full product ranges on shelves, ensuring neat presentation and that items are within sell-by dates
- Restock merchandise to optimise sales and address out-of-stock queries promptly
- Store and pack delivered stock correctly and maintain an organised storeroom
- Ensure merchandise displays, labels, and pricing are accurate; report any discrepancies to management
- Keep up-to-date with new product knowledge to assist customers effectively
- Handle merchandise carefully to minimise losses
- Assist with restocking, back shopping, loading, and off-loading of stock as required
- Transact all purchases including cash, cards, vouchers, and coupons
- Process merchandise exchanges and authorised returns
- Handle all loyalty card transactions, including accelerated partner programmes
- Follow proper cash handling procedures, including placing cash in the drop safe
- Ensure all line voids and price changes are approved by a Frontshop Leader or Retail Store Assistant
- Facilitate stock rotation and adhere to Dischem stock control procedures
- Report low stock levels, out-of-stock items, damaged or expired stock to management
- Assist with stock counts and general stocktaking
- Establish professional relationships with customers and provide courteous assistance and advice
- Report customer compliments and complaints to management
- Maintain the required customer turnover per hour
- Support training of new and current team members
- Ensure outgoing stock, items, and scripts are scanned and paid for
- Keep daily takings secure until deposited in the drop safe
- Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviour of staff and customers
- Maintain housekeeping standards according to Dischem policies
- Adhere to Dischem’s Health and Safety rules, uniform, and personal appearance policies
Competencies
Essential
- Understanding of retail operations and administration
- Ability to solve problems and escalate issues appropriately
- Basic arithmetic skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
- Effective verbal communication and timely response to customer queries
- Ability to follow procedures and take personal responsibility for quality and timely completion of tasks
Advantageous
- Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook), numerical skills, SAP knowledge
Special Conditions of Employment
