Cashbuild is seeking a motivated and service-oriented General Assistant to provide outstanding customer service, maintain merchandising standards, and ensure a clean, safe store environment. This role is crucial in supporting daily operations and enhancing the shopping experience.

Job Description
The General Assistant is responsible for assisting customers, merchandising stock, ensuring accurate shelf labeling, and maintaining a clean and organized area of responsibility within the store. The role includes upholding safety standards and reporting stock issues to minimize losses.

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum of Grade 10 or NQF 3 with one year of work-related experience, or Grade 12 without experience

  • Valid South African ID or work permit

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English and the dominant local language

  • Basic numerical skills

  • Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays

  • Ability to perform under pressure

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service

  • Assist customers by offering product advice and resolving queries

  • Handle customer complaints promptly and effectively

Merchandising

  • Ensure bulk stock is merchandised safely and according to the store layout plan

  • Keep designated areas fully stocked and aligned with planogram standards

Housekeeping

  • Maintain a clean, obstruction-free area to ensure safe customer access

  • Label shelves correctly and update pricing as required

  • Complete checklists for cleaning and maintenance duties, including canteen and restroom facilities

Health and Safety Compliance

  • Adhere to OHSA regulations, including wearing safety gear and ensuring customer and staff safety

  • Ensure stock is stored and displayed safely in racks and bulk areas

  • Report any safety concerns or hazards to the Store Manager

Stock Loss Prevention

  • Identify and report damaged stock to the Store Manager

  • Maintain stock integrity by adhering to proper handling and display practices
