Job Description: Junior Firefighter

Regional areas

Positions are available for Junior Firefighters within the Fidelity Group to respond to and manage all fire-related incidents.

The primary responsibilities of this role include responding to fire incidents, firefighting, emergency rescue services, providing basic medical care, fire prevention activities, and assisting with the operation and maintenance of firefighting equipment. This role is crucial in ensuring the protection of lives and property for Fidelity Group clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond to fires, rescues, and related emergency or non-emergency situations.

  • Address incidents involving hazardous substances.

  • Assist with extricating and/or releasing casualties, conducting emergency operations as directed.

  • Provide basic medical care and resuscitate injured persons as required.

  • Operate firefighting equipment to manage, control, and extinguish fires.

  • Perform fire protection duties in situations that threaten lives or property.

  • Prepare for emergency incidents under the supervision of senior firefighters and officers.

  • Participate in training drills, simulation exercises, and physical fitness activities.

  • Train relevant employees on firefighting theory and practice.

  • Advise on fire prevention and corrective actions.

  • Implement procedures and use equipment to ensure the safety of data, people, and property.

  • Perform basic maintenance tasks on firefighting equipment to maintain operational readiness.

  • Maintain, clean, and test vehicles and equipment.

  • Keep computerized records of daily occurrences and incidents.

  • Conduct health and safety inspections to ensure a safe work environment.

  • Complete required documentation and participate in Health and Safety Committee meetings.

  • Drive and operate specialized firefighting vehicles and equipment during emergency responses.

  • Operate machinery to hoist, lower, or gain access to buildings during emergencies.

  • Ensure that fire apparatus and emergency equipment are safely operated to protect lives and property.

  • Assist with fire and safety training, fire safety inspections, and life safety education.

  • Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act during shifts.

  • Conduct safety inspections and ensure the use and maintenance of prescribed protective clothing.

  • Maintain equipment and follow repair schedules to ensure operational readiness.

  • Complete shift-related administrative routines as required by departmental policies.

  • Support supervisory functions and personnel-related tasks.

Qualifications, Experience, and Competencies Required:

  • Minimum Grade 12 qualification.

  • IFSAC Accredited.

  • NFPA 1001 Firefighter 2 certification.

  • Firefighter II Certification.

  • At least 2-3 years of firefighting training and related experience.

  • Valid code C1 driver’s license with PrDP.

  • Advanced driving experience is advantageous.

  • Medically and physically fit.

  • Strong knowledge of fire prevention procedures.

  • Familiarity with firefighting systems, fire classes, and fire chemistry.

  • Clear criminal record.

  • Ability to respond promptly to emergency situations.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Hazmat experience and knowledge.

  • EMT certification and First Aid (Levels 1-3).

Core Competencies:

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • In-depth understanding of Hazmat guidelines.

  • Knowledge of the security industry and adherence to group codes of conduct and regulatory authority.

  • Understanding of fundamental elements related to firefighter instructor applications in an operational role.
