Junior Firefighter

Regional Areas

Positions are available for Junior Firefighters within the Fidelity Group to respond to and manage fire-related incidents. The primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, responding to fire incidents, firefighting, emergency rescue services, providing basic medical care, conducting fire prevention and training activities, and maintaining firefighting equipment. All tasks are essential to protect the lives and property of Fidelity Group’s clients.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Respond to fires, rescues, and other emergency and non-emergency humanitarian incidents

  • Respond to incidents involving hazardous substances

  • Extricate or release casualties and carry out emergency operations as directed

  • Provide resuscitation and treat injured individuals under the guidance of higher-level authorities

  • Operate equipment to manage, control, and extinguish fires

  • Perform fire protection duties in situations that may threaten lives or property, using appropriate equipment as directed

  • Prepare for emergency incidents and fire protection duties under the supervision of senior officers

  • Participate in training drills, simulation exercises, and physical fitness training

  • Train employees on fire theory and practical firefighting techniques

  • Advise on fire prevention measures and corrective actions

  • Implement procedures, strategies, and proper equipment use to promote safety

  • Perform basic maintenance on firefighting equipment to ensure readiness

  • Check, clean, test, and maintain vehicles and equipment

  • Complete computerized logs to maintain accurate records of daily occurrences

  • Conduct health and safety inspections to ensure a safe work environment

  • Complete required documentation and participate in health and safety committee meetings

  • Drive and operate specialized vehicles/appliances during emergency incidents

  • Operate machinery to gain access to buildings or extricate victims

  • Ensure fire apparatus and equipment are operational to save lives and property

  • Assist in fire safety training, fire safety inspections, and life safety education

  • Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act by conducting necessary safety inspections

  • Maintain prescribed protective clothing and ensure adherence to safety policies

  • Comply with equipment maintenance schedules and effect repairs to reduce damage

  • Complete shift-related administrative routines to maintain prescribed records

  • Perform supervisory and functional personnel-related tasks

Qualifications, Experience, and Competencies:

  • Minimum Grade 12 qualification

  • IFSAC accredited certification

  • NFPA 1001 Firefighter II certification

  • Firefighting training and at least 2-3 years of related experience

  • Valid code C1 driver’s license with PrDP

  • Advanced driving experience is advantageous

  • Must be medically and physically fit

  • Strong understanding of fire prevention procedures

  • Knowledge of fire-fighting systems, fire classes, and the chemistry of fire

  • Clear criminal record

  • Ability to respond efficiently to emergency situations

  • Good administration, interpersonal, communication, and customer liaison skills

  • Hazmat experience and knowledge essential

  • EMT certification and First Aid levels 1-3

Core Competencies:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Good understanding of Hazmat guidelines

  • Knowledge of the security industry and adherence to the group’s code of conduct

  • Understanding of fundamental firefighter instructor applications in an operational role
