Job Description
As a Lead Accountant at Tiger Brands, you will be responsible for reporting the financial performance of a selected business unit, ensuring that the integrity, accuracy, and completeness of financial records are maintained in accordance with IFRS. You will oversee the activities and performance of the accountants within your team, ensuring the timely and accurate execution of financial tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Management:

    • Produce accurate and complete general ledger (GL) reports, including weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting, reconciliations, management packs, business review packs, tax packs, and audit packs in line with IFRS and Group accounting policies.

    • Respond to queries and provide the necessary information and explanations.

    • Manage and motivate a well-trained and informed team that meets output and service requirements.

    • Review monthly inputs from site cost accountants and SSC accountants for inclusion in the monthly reporting pack.

    • Compile annual budgets, quarterly forecasts, and weekly profit estimates based on sensible assumptions.

    • Implement and maintain financial systems and controls to ensure accuracy.

    • Authorize journals and approve reconciliations completed by financial accountants.

    • Ensure the fixed asset register is accurate, complete, and up to date.

    • Complete and accept annual insurance renewal submissions.

    • Review and approve electronic payments to suppliers.

    • Attend stocktakes and provide reports as per standard operating procedures.

  • Governance and Compliance:

    • Stay up-to-date with relevant legislation and best practices, ensuring Tiger Brands’ policies are updated and compliant.

    • Govern organizational design frameworks and adherence to processes, policies, and guidelines.

    • Manage staff establishment and headcount reporting across the group.

    • Ensure timely remedial actions to address non-conformances.

  • Risk Management:

    • Complete and submit the departmental risk register, providing quarterly updates on risk mitigation strategies.

    • Monitor, escalate, and report on risk management issues, proactively addressing risks and solutions.

  • People Management:

    • Support workforce planning to ensure adequate staffing to meet strategic objectives.

    • Implement talent management, performance management, and succession planning processes to ensure functional performance standards are met.

    • Champion knowledge sharing and professional development within the team.

  • Reporting:

    • Provide accurate and timely reports to leadership in line with statutory requirements.

    • Utilize and apply approved reporting templates for consistency and accuracy.

Qualifications

  • CIMA, CA, or B.Comm Hons. Accounting degree

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Experience in financial management and cost accounting within the FMCG sector

  • 5-7 years of relevant experience
