Job Overview

Pick n Pay is seeking a strategic and commercially minded Marketing Manager with strong digital and omnichannel expertise. The role focuses on driving brand growth, customer acquisition, and eCommerce performance by linking marketing strategy to measurable commercial outcomes. The ideal candidate combines analytical insight with creative execution, leadership skills, and a proven track record in retail or digital commerce.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Marketing Leadership

  • Define and deliver the marketing strategy for Pick n Pay eCommerce

  • Lead go-to-market planning for key initiatives, aligning with commercial, merchandising, and operational objectives

  • Act as a senior marketing voice in cross-functional teams, influencing business-wide decision-making

Brand & Customer Growth

  • Drive brand positioning and differentiation within the South African eCommerce market

  • Develop and execute marketing plans to increase customer acquisition, share of search, and long-term loyalty

  • Ensure consistent brand messaging across digital and in-store touchpoints

Digital & Performance Marketing

  • Oversee digital marketing campaigns including SEO/SEM, CRM, social, and performance media

  • Optimise the online customer journey to improve NPS, conversion rates, and basket size

  • Analyse marketing spend and link activities directly to GMV, revenue, and ROI

Cross-Functional & Stakeholder Leadership

  • Collaborate with merchandising, operations, and technology teams to deliver seamless customer experiences

  • Influence senior stakeholders and manage agency/partner relationships to ensure best-in-class delivery

  • Serve as the escalation point for strategic marketing decisions impacting eCommerce

Team & Agency Management

  • Lead internal marketing teams and agency partners with clear objectives and accountability

  • Mentor and develop talent within the marketing function

  • Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture

Analytics, Reporting & Commercial Accountability

  • Own the marketing performance dashboard for eCommerce

  • Translate data and insights into actionable strategies that drive growth

  • Report on KPIs, budget, and marketing outcomes to senior leadership

Budget & Resource Management

  • Manage significant marketing budgets with a focus on ROI

  • Ensure efficient allocation of resources across initiatives

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, or related field; postgraduate qualification advantageous

  • 5+ years of marketing experience, with proven experience at Marketing Manager level

  • Experience in eCommerce or retail marketing preferred

  • Strong understanding of omnichannel strategy and digital commerce trends

  • Demonstrated ability to link marketing execution to commercial outcomes (GMV, revenue, market share)

  • Excellent leadership, stakeholder management, and communication skills

  • Analytical mindset with proficiency in data-driven decision-making

  • Strategic thinker with creative problem-solving ability
