Rand Water Vacancies – Mechanical Engineering/Technologist

Job Purpose
Rand Water is seeking a qualified Mechanical Engineering/Technologist to support the Asset Manager as custodian of water supply infrastructure. The role is responsible for ensuring that assets are specified, installed, operated, and maintained to deliver reliable service at minimum lifecycle cost.

Minimum Requirements

  • BSc Mechanical Engineering or BTech Mechanical Engineering.

  • Registration (or eligibility for registration) with ECSA as a Candidate Engineer.

  • 3–4 years’ experience in engineering or infrastructure management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Mechanical Asset Manager in leading and managing activities for optimal lifecycle performance of assets.

  • Develop, compile, and execute business plans in line with departmental objectives.

  • Create and maintain standards for asset performance, availability, maintenance, and lifespan.

  • Provide updated plans and costs for integration into the Asset Management Plan.

  • Lead reviews and improvements of standards, specifications, and maintenance regimes.

  • Oversee asset assessors and maintenance staff in inspections, audits, and support services.

  • Review and approve specifications/designs of new assets for lifecycle performance.

  • Support budgeting, financial control, and staff development including mentoring and succession planning.

  • Manage asset-related projects and promote technical innovation.

  • Foster a culture of teamwork, achievement, safety, and equity within the section.

  • Condition assessment and performance measurement techniques.

  • Asset rehabilitation technology.

  • Plant maintenance and reliability.
