Job Description:
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a reputable Pharmacist Assistant with a Post Basic Qualification for their Potchefstroom store. This role involves providing pharmaceutical care, ensuring patients’ medicine-related needs are met, and taking accountability for these responsibilities.
Minimum Requirements:
- Grade 12 / Matric
- Basic Pharmacist Assistance qualification
- Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
- Experience with Unisolv
- Computer literacy – MS Office
- Strong numerical skills
- Proficiency in English and a second language
- Willingness to work retail hours
Advantageous:
- Knowledge of retail/FMCG operations
- Proficiency in a third additional language
- Familiarity with SAP and E-Scripting
- Understanding of drug and family planning, and complementary medicine
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines or scheduled substances
- Support the compounding, manipulation, and preparation of non-sterile medicines or scheduled substances under the supervision of the responsible pharmacist
- Aid in the manufacturing of non-sterile medicines or scheduled substances according to approved formulas and procedures
- Assist with the re-packaging and distribution of medicines, including Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 substances
- Help order medicines and scheduled substances according to instructions from authorized personnel
- Interpret prescriptions and assist in the preparation, labeling, and supply of medicines
- Ensure accuracy in picking, packing, labeling, and checking medications while being aware of dosages and drug interactions
- Provide clear instructions to patients on the correct use of medicines supplied
- Stay updated on medical aid procedures and requirements for claims and dispensing
- Ensure that all medications are checked and signed off by a pharmacist
- Advise and assist patients at the dispensary, self-medication counter, and front shop
- Follow up with patients regarding script tracking and appointment reminders
- Process paperwork for accurate submission of claims to medical aids
- Correct errors on scripts rejected by medical aid and ensure authorization for chronic, HIV, and oncology medications
- Maintain and update customer profiles in the system
- Report low or out-of-stock levels and stock errors to the dispensary manager
- Receive and merchandise dispensary stock according to Dis-Chem’s SOPs
- Facilitate bi-annual stock takes and manage stock, cash, and asset control
