Dischem Vacancies – Pharmacist – Claremont

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a skilled and reputable Pharmacist for their Claremont, Cavendish Square store. The primary responsibility of this role is to provide pharmaceutical care by managing patients’ medication-related needs and ensuring these needs are met in accordance with professional standards.

Minimum Requirements:

Essential:

  • Grade 12 / Matric

  • BPharm / equivalent qualification

  • Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of pharmaceutical experience

  • 2-3 years of retail pharmacy experience (Student/Intern)

  • Computer literate (MS Office)

Advantageous:

  • Relevant retail/FMCG experience

  • Third additional language

  • SAP experience

  • E-scripting experience

  • Registered tutor

  • Unisolv experience

Duties and Responsibilities:

Pharmaceutical Care:

  • Evaluate patients’ medication needs, assessing the indication, safety, and effectiveness of prescribed therapies.

  • Dispense medicines or scheduled substances according to prescriptions from authorized prescribers.

  • Review and sign off on prescriptions prepared by assistants or interns, ensuring accuracy.

  • Provide guidance and information regarding the proper use of medication.

  • Monitor patient compliance with prescribed therapies and follow up to ensure their medication needs are met.

  • Provide pharmacist-initiated therapy when necessary.

  • Supervise the compounding, preparation, packaging, or manipulation of medicines or scheduled substances.

  • Oversee the manufacturing of medicines and scheduled substances, or supervise these activities.

  • Handle the purchasing, acquiring, storing, and selling of medicines or scheduled substances.

  • Ensure the application for the registration of medicines in compliance with the Medicines Act and Pharmacy Act.

Prescription Management and Compliance:

  • Interpret and process prescriptions in line with legal requirements from the South African Pharmacy Council.

  • Accurately capture script details and verify patient information on the system.

  • Ensure proper picking, packing, labeling, and checking of medications, considering common dosages and drug interactions.

  • Provide patients with clear instructions on how to properly use their prescribed medications.

  • Stay updated on medical aid procedures and claim requirements.

  • Offer assistance to patients at the dispensary, self-medication counter, and front-shop.

Administrative Support:

  • Follow up with patients on script tracking reports and appointments.

  • Provide explanations of medical aid costs and ensure all claims are processed accurately.

  • Maintain customer profiles on the system, merging profiles when necessary.

  • Assist the Dispensary Manager with all administrative functions, including stock reporting and inventory control.

  • Participate in bi-annual stock takes and maintain stock, cash, and asset control.

  • Ensure adherence to Dis-Chem’s policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures.

  • Uphold health and safety standards and Dis-Chem’s uniform policy.

Competencies:

  • Proficient in English and an additional language (reading, writing, and speaking)
