Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a skilled and experienced Pharmacist for their Constantia Park store. The primary responsibility of this role is to provide comprehensive pharmaceutical care by ensuring that patients’ medication needs are met, while adhering to legal and professional standards. The Pharmacist will be accountable for evaluating medication safety, dispensing prescriptions, and advising patients on proper medication use.
Minimum Requirements:

Grade 12 / Matric

BPharm or equivalent qualification

Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)

2-3 years of pharmaceutical experience

2-3 years of retail pharmacy experience (Student/Intern)

Duties and Responsibilities:
-
Provide pharmaceutical care by taking responsibility for patients’ medicine-related needs, ensuring safety and effectiveness of therapy.

Dispense medication as per prescriptions and ensure accuracy in all processes.

Oversee and verify prescriptions prepared by assistants or interns, ensuring compliance with Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP).
-
Offer advice on the correct use of medication and ensure patient understanding.
-
Assess patient compliance with prescribed therapy and follow up as necessary.
-
Provide pharmacist-initiated therapy when needed.
-
Oversee the compounding, preparation, packaging, and storage of medicines or scheduled substances.
-
Manage the purchasing, storage, and distribution of medicines in line with regulations.
-
Apply for medicine registration as per the Medicines Act and Pharmacy Act.

Formulate medicines for registration and supervise their manufacturing.
-
Accurately interpret prescriptions and comply with South African Pharmaceutical Council standards.

Ensure proper picking, packing, labeling, and checking of medication, while being mindful of dosages and drug interactions.

Keep patients informed of correct medication usage and address any concerns.

Stay updated on changes in medical aid procedures and dispensing requirements.

Assist with the administration of medical aid claims and resolve any issues related to prescriptions or authorizations.

Ensure all paperwork related to claims is completed accurately and on time.

Follow up with patients regarding prescription tracking and appointments.

Maintain customer profiles in the system and ensure they are accurate and updated.

Report low stock levels and assist with stock control processes.

Support the Dispensary Manager with stock management and facilitate bi-annual stock takes.

Adhere to health and safety protocols, company policies, and procedures.

Maintain cleanliness and organization within the dispensary according to Dis-Chem standards.
