Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a dedicated and reputable Pharmacist for their Constantia Park store. This role is responsible for providing pharmaceutical care, managing patients’ medication-related needs, and ensuring these needs are met with the highest level of professionalism and accountability.

Minimum Requirements:

Essential:

  • Grade 12 / Matric

  • BPharm or equivalent qualification

  • Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)

  • A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in the pharmaceutical field

  • 2-3 years of retail pharmacy experience (Student/Intern)

  • Proficient in MS Office

Advantageous:

  • Relevant retail/FMCG experience

  • Proficiency in a third additional language

  • SAP experience

  • E-scripting experience

  • Registered tutor

  • Unisolv experience

Duties and Responsibilities:

Pharmaceutical Care:

  • Evaluate patients’ medication-related needs, ensuring the safety and effectiveness of prescribed therapy.

  • Dispense medicines or scheduled substances according to the prescription from an authorized prescriber.

  • Review and sign off on prescriptions prepared by assistants or interns, ensuring accuracy and compliance with Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP).

  • Provide advice and information on the proper use of medicine to patients.

  • Monitor patient compliance with prescribed therapies and follow up to ensure their medication needs are consistently met.

  • Offer pharmacist-initiated therapy as required.

  • Oversee the compounding, manipulation, preparation, or packaging of medicines, and supervise these processes.

  • Manage the manufacturing of medicines or scheduled substances, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.

  • Handle the purchasing, storing, packaging, and supplying of medicines or scheduled substances in accordance with the Medicines Act and Pharmacy Act.

Prescription Management and Compliance:

  • Accurately interpret prescriptions and adhere to legal requirements as set by the South African Pharmacy Council.

  • Capture and verify patient information in the system accurately.

  • Ensure proper picking, packing, labeling, and checking of medication, considering common dosages and drug interactions.

  • Provide clear and accurate instructions on medication use to patients.

  • Stay updated on changes to medical aid procedures and claims requirements.

  • Assist patients at the dispensary, self-medication counter, and front shop, providing guidance and support.

Administrative Support:

  • Follow up with patients on script tracking and ensure timely follow-up appointments.

  • Clearly explain medical aid costs to patients and assist with the submission of claims.

  • Correct errors on rejected medical aid scripts and ensure the authorization of chronic, HIV, AIDS, and oncology medications.

  • Maintain accurate customer profiles in the system, merging profiles when necessary.

  • Assist the Dispensary Manager with administration functions, stock reporting, and ensuring accurate stock control.

  • Participate in bi-annual stock takes and exercise stock, cash, and asset control.

  • Ensure that all stock control processes and registers are maintained in compliance with legislation.

  • Uphold Dis-Chem’s policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures.

Competencies:

  • Strong command of the English language and a second language (read, write, and speak)

  • Computer literate (MS Office)
