Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a qualified and experienced Pharmacist for their Constantia Park store. The role involves providing pharmaceutical care, ensuring patients’ medicine-related needs are met, and taking full responsibility for delivering quality pharmaceutical services.

Minimum Requirements:

Essential:

  • Grade 12 / Matric

  • BPharm or equivalent qualification

  • Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)

  • Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in pharmaceuticals

  • 2–3 years of retail pharmacy experience (Student/Intern)

  • Computer literate – MS Office

Advantageous:

  • Relevant retail or FMCG experience

  • Third additional language

  • SAP experience

  • E-scripting experience

  • Registered tutor

  • Unisolv experience

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide pharmaceutical care, including evaluating patients’ medicine-related needs to ensure safe and effective therapy.

  • Dispense medications or scheduled substances based on authorized prescriptions.

  • Sign off and check prescriptions prepared by assistants or interns, ensuring accuracy according to GPP guidelines.

  • Offer advice and information to patients regarding proper use of medicines.

  • Monitor patient compliance with therapies and follow up to ensure that needs are being met.

  • Provide pharmacist-initiated therapy and manage compounding, preparation, and packaging of medicines.

  • Supervise the manufacturing, storage, and distribution of medicines.

  • Assist in the registration of medicines in accordance with the Medicines Act and Pharmacy Act.

  • Act in a professional and responsible manner according to the South African Pharmaceutical Council’s legal requirements.

  • Accurately capture prescription details and verify patient information.

  • Ensure accurate picking, packing, labeling, and checking of medication, being mindful of dosages and drug interactions.

  • Provide clear instructions to patients on the correct use of medications.

  • Stay informed about changes in medical aid procedures and requirements for claims and dispensing.

  • Assist and advise patients at the dispensary, self-medication counter, and front-shop.

  • Follow up with patients on script tracking reports and ensure accurate documentation.

  • Facilitate medical aid claims, correcting errors on rejected scripts and ensuring authorization for chronic, HIV, AIDS, and oncology medications.

  • Maintain customer profiles and manage merging of profiles when needed.

  • Support the Dispensary Manager with administrative duties and stock control processes.

  • Ensure accurate reporting on stock levels and assist with bi-annual stock takes.

  • Adhere to Dis-Chem policies and procedures, including health and safety rules, and maintain the required store appearance standards.

Competencies:

Essential:

  • Strong command of the English language, with a second language preferred

  • Excellent communication and listening skills

  • Understanding of basic dosing and important drug interactions

  • Customer service-focused with supervisory experience

  • Ability to train and manage staff

  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to manage time effectively and handle pressure

  • Computer literate – MS Office

Special Conditions of Employment:
