Dischem Vacancies – Pharmacist – Montana

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for an experienced and dedicated Pharmacist to join their team at the Montana store. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality pharmaceutical care, ensuring patients’ medicine-related needs are met, and managing various aspects of pharmaceutical services.

Minimum Requirements:

Essential:

  • Grade 12 / Matric

  • BPharm or equivalent qualification

  • Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)

  • Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in pharmaceutical services

  • 2–3 years of retail pharmacy experience (including student or intern)

  • Computer literate – MS Office

Advantageous:

  • Relevant retail/FMCG experience

  • Third additional language

  • SAP experience

  • E-scripting experience

  • Registered tutor

  • Unisolv experience

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive pharmaceutical care by evaluating patients’ medicine-related needs, ensuring the safety and effectiveness of prescribed therapies.

  • Dispense medications or scheduled substances based on valid prescriptions from authorized individuals.

  • Sign off and verify prescriptions prepared by assistants or interns, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GPP guidelines.

  • Offer professional advice and information regarding the proper use of medications.

  • Monitor patient compliance with prescribed therapies and follow up to ensure their needs are met.

  • Provide pharmacist-initiated therapy and oversee the compounding, preparation, and packaging of medicines.

  • Supervise the manufacturing, storage, and distribution of medicines and scheduled substances.

  • Assist in the registration of medicines according to the Medicines Act and Pharmacy Act.

  • Accurately interpret prescriptions, ensuring professional and legal compliance as per South African Pharmaceutical Council guidelines.

  • Capture prescription details and verify patient information on the system.

  • Ensure the accurate picking, packing, labeling, and checking of medications, keeping an eye on common dosages and potential drug interactions.

  • Provide patients with clear instructions on how to use the prescribed medication.

  • Stay updated on changes in medical aid procedures and dispensing requirements.

  • Advise and assist patients at the dispensary, self-medication counter, and front-shop.

  • Follow up on prescriptions and appointments as requested by the dispensary manager.

  • Explain medical aid costs and ensure patients are informed about pricing and coverage.

  • Evaluate disease conditions and refer patients to in-store health facilities as needed.

  • Manage paperwork for the accurate submission of claims to medical aids.

  • Correct errors on scripts rejected by medical aid and ensure authorization for chronic, HIV, AIDS, and oncology medications.

  • Maintain up-to-date customer profiles and ensure the merging of profiles when necessary.

  • Support the Dispensary Manager with administration tasks, stock control, and the management of inventory.

  • Ensure all stock control processes are adhered to and all registers are maintained in accordance with legislation.

  • Perform bi-annual stock takes and report on low stock levels or errors.

  • Maintain the dispensary according to Dis-Chem standards and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.

Special Conditions of Employment:
