Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a qualified Pharmacist for their Percelia store. The role focuses on providing comprehensive pharmaceutical care, ensuring patients’ medication-related needs are met responsibly and effectively.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 / Matric

  • BPharm or equivalent qualification

  • Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)

  • 2-3 years of pharmaceutical experience

  • 2-3 years of retail pharmacy experience (Student/Intern)

  • Computer literate – MS Office

Advantageous:

  • Relevant retail/FMCG experience

  • Third additional language

  • SAP experience

  • E-scripting experience

  • Registered tutor

  • Unisolv experience

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Take responsibility for patients’ medicine-related needs, ensuring the safe and effective use of therapy.

  • Dispense medications based on prescriptions and verify their accuracy.

  • Review prescriptions prepared by assistants or interns and ensure compliance with Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP).

  • Provide medication-related information and advice to patients.

  • Monitor patient compliance with prescribed therapies and follow up to ensure continued care.

  • Initiate pharmacist-led therapy when necessary.

  • Supervise and manage the compounding, preparation, and packaging of medications or scheduled substances.

  • Handle the purchasing, storage, and distribution of medications in compliance with regulatory standards.

  • Oversee the application process for the registration of medicines in accordance with the Medicines Act and Pharmacy Act.

  • Interpret prescriptions accurately and ensure compliance with the South African Pharmaceutical Council regulations.

  • Ensure proper picking, packing, labeling, and checking of medications, and be aware of dosages and drug interactions.

  • Provide clear instructions to patients on how to properly use their medications.

  • Stay informed about medical aid procedures and requirements for claims and dispensing.

  • Assist patients at the dispensary, self-medication counter, and front-shop with relevant advice and service.

  • Follow up with patients regarding prescription tracking and appointments as needed.

  • Ensure accurate submission of medical aid claims and handle any rejections or errors.

  • Authorize chronic, HIV, AIDS, and oncology medications.

  • Maintain customer profiles and ensure they are updated as needed.

  • Report low stock levels and assist with stock control, including conducting bi-annual stock takes.

  • Adhere to Dis-Chem’s stock management processes and ensure compliance with policies and procedures.

  • Follow proper housekeeping standards as per Dis-Chem’s guidelines.

  • Comply with health and safety regulations, uniform policies, and other Dis-Chem procedures.

  • Strong command of the English language and a second language (read, write, and speak)

  • Knowledge of dosing and important drug interactions

  • Excellent customer service and patient care focus

  • Supervisory experience and the ability to lead by example

  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving, and time management skills

  • Ability to work well under pressure and as part of a team

  • Trustworthy, honest, and reliable

  • Computer literate – MS Office

Special Conditions of Employment:
