Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a dedicated and experienced Pharmacist for their Percelia store. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering pharmaceutical care, ensuring that patients’ medication-related needs are met, and being accountable for the quality of service provided.
Minimum Requirements:
Essential:
-
Grade 12 / Matric
-
BPharm or equivalent qualification
-
Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
-
Minimum of 2–3 years’ experience in pharmaceutical services
-
2–3 years’ retail pharmacy experience (including student or intern experience)
-
Computer literate – MS Office
Advantageous:

Relevant retail/FMCG experience
-
Knowledge of a third additional language
-
Experience with SAP
-
E-scripting experience
-
Registered tutor
-
Unisolv experience
Duties and Responsibilities:
-
Provide pharmaceutical care, taking responsibility for patients’ medication needs and ensuring they are met efficiently and effectively.

Evaluate patients’ medicine-related needs, determining the safety, effectiveness, and appropriateness of prescribed therapies.

Dispense medicines or scheduled substances based on prescriptions from authorized medical professionals.
-
Sign off and verify prescriptions prepared by assistants or interns, ensuring accuracy and compliance with the necessary standards.

Offer information and advice regarding the proper use of medicines to patients and customers.
-
Monitor patient compliance with prescribed therapies, following up to ensure their medicine-related needs are met.

Administer pharmacist-initiated therapy and oversee the preparation, manipulation, and packaging of medicines and scheduled substances.

Manage the manufacturing, storage, distribution, and sale of medicines, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Assist with the registration of medicines in accordance with the Medicines Act and Pharmacy Act.

Accurately interpret prescriptions in line with the South African Pharmaceutical Council’s legal and ethical requirements.

Maintain accurate records of prescription details and patient information in the system.

Ensure proper picking, packing, labeling, and checking of medication, staying informed about common dosages and potential drug interactions.

Provide clear instructions to patients regarding the correct use of their prescribed medication.
-
Stay informed about changes to medical aid procedures and dispensing requirements.
-
Assist patients at the dispensary, self-medication counter, and front shop.
-
Follow up with patients regarding prescription tracking and appointments.
-
Ensure patients understand medical aid costs and provide clarity on pricing and coverage.

Refer patients to in-store health facilities when necessary and evaluate disease conditions.

Handle all paperwork related to medical aid claims accurately and timely.
-
Correct errors on scripts rejected by medical aids.
-
Ensure authorization of chronic, HIV, AIDS, and oncology medications.

Maintain and update customer profiles in the system.
-
Report on low stock levels and stock errors to the dispensary manager.

Assist with bi-annual stock takes and manage inventory control.
-
Ensure all stock control processes are adhered to and registers are kept up to date in line with legislation.

Maintain the dispensary according to Dis-Chem’s standards.

Ensure compliance with Health and Safety regulations and Dis-Chem policies and procedures.
