Dischem Vacancies – Pharmacist – President Boulevard

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a qualified Pharmacist for their President Boulevard store. The role involves providing exceptional pharmaceutical care, taking full responsibility for patients’ medication needs, and ensuring these needs are met in compliance with professional and regulatory standards.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 / Matric

  • BPharm or equivalent qualification

  • Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)

  • A minimum of 2-3 years of pharmaceutical experience

  • 2-3 years of retail pharmacy experience (Student/Intern)

  • Computer literate – MS Office

Advantageous:

  • Relevant retail/FMCG experience

  • Third additional language

  • SAP experience

  • E-scripting experience

  • Registered tutor

  • Unisolv experience

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide pharmaceutical care and take responsibility for patients’ medication-related needs.

  • Evaluate patients’ medication needs by assessing the indication, safety, and effectiveness of therapy.

  • Dispense medicines and scheduled substances as prescribed by a licensed healthcare professional.

  • Sign off on and check prescriptions prepared by assistants or interns, ensuring correctness as per Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP).

  • Offer medication-related information and advice to patients.

  • Monitor patient compliance with therapies and follow up to ensure their needs are met.

  • Provide pharmacist-initiated therapy when necessary.

  • Oversee the compounding, preparation, and packaging of medications or scheduled substances.

  • Supervise the manufacturing, storage, packaging, and distribution of medicines.

  • Ensure compliance with the Medicines Act and Pharmacy Act during the registration of medicines.

  • Accurately interpret prescriptions, ensuring compliance with South African Pharmaceutical Council regulations.

  • Verify patient details and capture prescription information accurately in the system.

  • Ensure proper picking, packing, labeling, and checking of medications, keeping in mind dosages and drug interactions.

  • Provide clear instructions on the correct use of medications to patients.

  • Stay informed of medical aid procedures, claim requirements, and dispensing regulations.

  • Assist patients at the dispensary, self-medication counter, and front-shop.

  • Follow up with patients on script tracking and ensure follow-up appointments.

  • Explain medical aid costs and assist patients with their inquiries.

  • Evaluate disease conditions and refer patients to in-store health services when needed.

  • Process paperwork for accurate medical aid claims and resolve errors on rejected claims.

  • Ensure authorization for chronic, HIV, AIDS, and oncology medications.

  • Maintain up-to-date customer profiles in the system.

  • Report on low stock levels and assist with stock control, including conducting bi-annual stock takes.

  • Adhere to Dis-Chem’s policies, procedures, and housekeeping standards.

  • Follow health and safety regulations and maintain personal appearance in accordance with Dis-Chem guidelines.
