Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a skilled Pharmacist for their Secunda store. The successful candidate will take on the responsibility of providing pharmaceutical care, ensuring that patients’ medicine-related needs are met efficiently and accurately.
Minimum Requirements:

Grade 12 / Matric

BPharm or equivalent qualification

Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)

A minimum of 2-3 years of pharmaceutical experience

2-3 years of retail pharmacy experience (Student/Intern)

Duties and Responsibilities:
-
Take responsibility for the provision of pharmaceutical care and address patients’ medicine-related needs.
-
Assess the indication, safety, and effectiveness of therapy to evaluate patients’ medicine needs.
-
Dispense medicines or scheduled substances based on prescriptions from authorized healthcare providers.
-
Sign off and verify all prescriptions prepared by assistants or interns, ensuring accuracy as per Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP).
-
Provide guidance and information on the proper use of medicines to patients.
-
Monitor patient compliance with therapy and follow up to ensure ongoing needs are met.
-
Offer pharmacist-initiated therapy when required.
-
Supervise the compounding, preparation, packaging, and manufacturing of medicines or scheduled substances.
-
Ensure compliance with the Medicines Act and Pharmacy Act when applying for the registration of medicines.
-
Act in accordance with the South African Pharmaceutical Council regulations when interpreting prescriptions.
-
Capture prescription information accurately and verify patient details in the system.
-
Ensure the proper picking, packing, labeling, and checking of medications, being mindful of dosages and drug interactions.

Provide patients with clear instructions on the correct usage of their medications.

Stay informed about changes in medical aid procedures and dispensing requirements.
-
Assist patients at the dispensary, self-medication counter, and front-shop.
-
Follow up on script tracking reports as requested by the dispensary manager and manage follow-up appointments.

Explain medical aid costs to patients and assist with inquiries.

Refer patients to in-store health services as needed based on disease condition evaluations.
-
Process the necessary paperwork for medical aid claims and resolve errors on rejected claims.

Ensure authorization for chronic, HIV, AIDS, and oncology medication.

Maintain and update customer profiles in the system.
-
Report on low stock levels and assist with stock management, including facilitating bi-annual stock takes.

Ensure adherence to stock control processes and maintain compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

Maintain a clean and orderly dispensary environment, in line with Dis-Chem standards.

Follow all health and safety regulations and adhere to company uniform and appearance policies.
