Dis-Chem Pharmacies is currently looking for a qualified and experienced Pharmacist to join their team at The Verge store. This role is centered around delivering high-quality pharmaceutical care and taking full responsibility for patients’ medicine-related needs.
Minimum Requirements
Essential:
-
Grade 12 / Matric
-
BPharm degree or equivalent qualification
-
Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
-
2–3 years of experience in the pharmaceutical field
-
2–3 years of retail pharmacy experience (student/internship included)
-
Proficiency in MS Office
Advantageous:
-
Retail/FMCG sector experience
-
A third language
-
Familiarity with SAP and Unisolv systems
-
E-scripting knowledge
-
Registered tutor status
Key Responsibilities
-
Evaluate patients’ medication needs, ensuring therapy is safe, effective, and indicated
-
Dispense medication accurately according to prescriptions
-
Check and sign off prescriptions prepared by assistants/interns in line with GPP standards
-
Offer guidance on the proper use of medicines and promote patient compliance
-
Manage pharmacist-initiated therapy where appropriate
-
Oversee the compounding, packaging, or manipulation of medicines
-
Supervise and assist in medicine manufacturing and distribution
-
Ensure compliance with legislation surrounding medicine handling, storage, and sale
-
Maintain professional accountability for all pharmaceutical actions
-
Stay updated on medical aid protocols and accurately process claims
-
Support patients at the dispensary and self-medication counters
-
Ensure stock control, accurate medication labelling, and administrative accuracy
-
Support dispensary management with reporting, inventory, and housekeeping
-
Maintain and update customer profiles, including script tracking and chronic medication authorizations

Proficiency in English and at least one additional language

Strong communication and customer service orientation

Solid knowledge of dosing, drug interactions, and patient education

Leadership and conflict resolution skills

Attention to detail, accuracy, and time management

Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks

Computer literacy in MS Office

Willingness to work retail hours, including weekends and holidays

Physically fit, able to stand for extended periods

Clear criminal and credit record

South African citizen with a valid driver’s license and own transport
