Dis-Chem Pharmacies is recruiting for a reliable and experienced Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant to join the team at our Brooklyn branch. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring effective pharmaceutical care, addressing patients’ medicine-related needs, and maintaining compliance with all relevant regulations and procedures.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric

  • Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification

  • Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)

  • Previous experience using Unisolv

  • Proficient in MS Office

  • Strong numerical ability

  • Excellent command of English and a second language

  • Willingness to work retail hours

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience in retail or FMCG operations

  • Knowledge of or exposure to SAP and E-Scripting

  • Fluency in a third language

  • Familiarity with drug and family planning, as well as complementary medicine

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the sale of Schedule 1 and 2 medicines in line with legislation

  • Assist with the compounding, preparation, and packaging of non-sterile medication according to SOPs

  • Assist in manufacturing and re-packaging of non-sterile medicines as approved by the responsible pharmacist

  • Contribute to the control and distribution of Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 substances

  • Process medicine orders including Schedule 6 medication under appropriate authorisation

  • Read and interpret prescriptions accurately, and assist with compounding, labelling, and supplying medications

  • Ensure all prescription details are correctly captured and patient profiles are updated

  • Dispense medication with attention to dosage accuracy and potential drug interactions

  • Provide patients with guidance on proper medicine use and storage

  • Stay informed on updates to medical aid policies and claims procedures

  • Ensure all medication is checked and signed off by the pharmacist

  • Offer informed support at the dispensary, self-medication, and front shop areas

  • Follow up on patient scripts, track prescriptions, and manage appointments

  • Assist with medical aid explanations and claim processes

  • Maintain and update patient information, including local and central profile merges

  • Identify and report stock discrepancies, and support with inventory management

  • Receive and merchandise stock according to the FEFO method

  • Assist with stock takes and ensure asset, stock, and cash control
