Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a reputable and experienced Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant for our Bryanpark branch. This role is focused on providing comprehensive pharmaceutical care, ensuring patient needs are met with professionalism and in compliance with legal and ethical standards.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric

  • Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification

  • Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)

  • Practical experience working on Unisolv

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

  • Strong numerical and analytical skills

  • Fluent in English and a second language

  • Willing and able to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays

Preferred Experience and Knowledge

  • Background in Retail or FMCG environments

  • Fluency in a third language

  • Knowledge or experience in SAP and E-Scripting

  • Understanding of family planning, drug therapy, and complementary medicine

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the sale of Schedule 1 and 2 medicines, ensuring compliance with pharmacy regulations

  • Prepare and compound non-sterile medication under supervision, following approved procedures

  • Participate in the manufacturing and re-packaging of medication in line with SOPs

  • Control and manage the distribution of Schedule 1 to 5 substances

  • Process medicine orders, including up to Schedule 6, as per authorised instructions

  • Read and interpret prescriptions, assisting with selection, preparation, labelling, and supply

  • Accurately capture prescription details and verify patient information in the system

  • Dispense medication with attention to dosage accuracy, interactions, and patient safety

  • Provide clear instructions on medication usage and promote patient education

  • Stay updated with medical aid requirements and support claim processing

  • Ensure pharmacist verification and sign-off on all medication dispensed

  • Advise customers at the dispensary, self-medication, and front shop areas

  • Follow up on prescriptions and appointments as requested by the dispensary manager

  • Educate patients on medical aid billing and benefits

  • Update and maintain accurate patient profiles and manage profile merges

  • Identify and report stock shortages or discrepancies to the dispensary manager

  • Receive and manage stock according to FEFO principles and company SOPs

  • Assist with stock takes and maintain accurate inventory and asset records

  • Exercise effective stock, cash, and asset control measures
