Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for a reputable and experienced Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant to join the team at our Brackenfell Corner store. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering pharmaceutical care by managing and being accountable for patients’ medicine-related needs in accordance with legal and professional requirements.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric

  • Qualification as a Basic Pharmacist Assistant

  • Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)

  • Experience working on Unisolv

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

  • Strong numerical ability

  • Fluency in English and a second language

  • Willingness to work retail hours

Preferred Skills and Knowledge

  • Experience in Retail or FMCG environments

  • Proficiency in a third language

  • Understanding or experience with SAP and E-Scripting

  • Knowledge of drug and family planning as well as complementary medicine

Responsibilities

  • Support the sale of Schedule 1 and 2 medicines in compliance with regulatory standards

  • Assist with the compounding and preparation of non-sterile medications according to approved procedures

  • Support manufacturing, repackaging, and labelling of medications under pharmacist supervision

  • Maintain control over stock for Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 substances

  • Assist in ordering of medication, including up to Schedule 6, under proper authorisation

  • Accurately capture and interpret prescriptions and verify patient information

  • Dispense and check medication to ensure accuracy and patient safety

  • Provide patients with clear instructions on medication use and dosage

  • Stay informed about changes in medical aid procedures and claims requirements

  • Ensure prescriptions are checked and signed off by a pharmacist

  • Advise patients in the dispensary, self-medication area, and front shop

  • Follow up on prescriptions, script tracking, and appointment scheduling

  • Explain medical aid costs and processes to patients

  • Maintain and update patient profiles and manage system merges as needed

  • Address stock discrepancies and ensure correct stock levels

  • Receive and manage dispensary stock following company SOPs and FEFO guidelines

  • Participate in bi-annual stock takes and ensure accurate inventory control

  • Uphold stock, cash, and asset security standards
