Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant – Baywest | Dis-Chem Pharmacies

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a reliable and skilled Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant for the Baywest store. The successful candidate will support the provision of pharmaceutical services by assisting with the patient’s medicine-related needs under the supervision of a registered pharmacist.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric

  • Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification

  • Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)

  • Working experience with Unisolv

  • Computer literacy in MS Office

  • Strong numerical ability

  • Fluency in English and one additional language

  • Willingness to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays

Advantageous Experience and Skills

  • Retail or FMCG experience

  • Knowledge of SAP and E-Scripting systems

  • Exposure to drug and family planning products, as well as complementary medicine

  • Fluency in a third language

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 and 2 medicines and scheduled substances

  • Participate in compounding, preparation, and manufacturing of non-sterile medicines under pharmacist supervision

  • Assist in repackaging, stock control, and distribution of medicines, including Schedule 1–6 substances

  • Support the reading, preparation, and dispensing of prescriptions, ensuring accurate labelling and packaging

  • Capture prescription data accurately and maintain up-to-date patient profiles in the system

  • Provide patients with correct usage instructions and offer professional assistance at the dispensary and self-medication counter

  • Check medications for dosage accuracy and highlight important drug interactions

  • Stay informed about changes in medical aid procedures and manage claims and rejections

  • Ensure authorisation of chronic, HIV, AIDS, and oncology medication

  • Report low or out-of-stock items and assist with stock receiving and merchandising according to FEFO standards

  • Assist with bi-annual stock takes, as well as stock, cash, and asset control processes

  • Support dispensary administration in line with Dis-Chem’s standard operating procedures
