Spar Vacancies – Purchasing Manager

Introduction:
A fantastic opportunity has become available for a Purchasing Manager to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will drive DC sales, grow retail loyalty, and meet DC and retail gross profit (GP) targets, all while gaining market share through strategic planning and purchasing of the correct stock on time, tailored to retailer requirements.

Job Description:
The Purchasing Manager will be responsible for overseeing purchasing strategies to meet the needs of the DC and its retailers. This includes managing promotions, pricing, supplier relations, and stock levels, as well as ensuring high-quality service delivery to retailers.

Key Performance Areas:

  • Manage promotions planning to drive sales and gross profit
  • Achieve sales and gross profit targets for the DC and retail partners
  • Ensure product pricing competitiveness and maintain budgeted retail margins
  • Deliver defined service levels to retailers
  • Develop internal controls for reporting on Category Managers’ key performance areas
  • Drive product development and market share growth
  • Oversee warehouse stock levels in alignment with budget expectations
  • Manage supplier performance in terms of pricing, product, and service levels
  • Negotiate trading terms and supplier SLAs
  • Control department administration and expenses
  • Provide leadership to the Marketing team
  • Offer category leadership to the Marketing team and SPAR Retail Members
  • Perform ad-hoc tasks and duties as required

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years of management experience in an FMCG environment
  • Tertiary qualification in Marketing/Advertising
  • Proven track record in developing suppliers to compliant SPAR suppliers
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate cross-functionally across the supply chain
  • Computer literate
  • Strong strategic decision-making and planning skills
  • Aggressive trading ability with strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Excellent negotiation and entrepreneurial skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong team player
