Value is recruiting a qualified and experienced Responsible Pharmacist to oversee pharmaceutical operations, ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, and manage the company’s Quality Management System (QMS). This role is critical to maintaining licensing, safety standards, and operational efficiency within the Value Logistics pharmaceutical environment. The Responsible Pharmacist will be responsible for ensuring compliance with the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA), the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC), and all internal standards.

Purpose of the Role

The Responsible Pharmacist will manage all pharmaceutical operations in line with SAHPRA, SAPC, and Value’s quality and operational policies. The role includes overseeing regulatory compliance, pharmaceutical licensing, QMS implementation, staff management, and audit readiness, while ensuring the safe and effective handling of medicinal products.

Key Responsibilities

Pharmaceutical Compliance and Oversight

  • Maintain up-to-date pharmaceutical and medical product licences, including SAHPRA and SAPC registrations

  • Ensure adherence to Good Wholesaling Practice (GWP), Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP), and Good Distribution Practice (GDP)

  • Act as the liaison with SAHPRA and SAPC for all regulatory submissions, notifications, and compliance queries

  • Supervise pharmaceutical operations to ensure secure handling, storage, and distribution of scheduled medicines and medical devices

  • Monitor and control access to scheduled products, ensuring delivery only to licensed recipients

  • Verify client licences and ensure sourcing from legitimate, registered entities

  • Maintain full regulatory compliance in procurement, warehousing, transportation, and disposal practices

  • Ensure effective control and documentation for Schedule 5 and 6 products

  • Maintain current SAPC-required reference books and ensure minimum standards for pharmacy premises are met

  • Act as the Pharmacovigilance Responsible Person, ensuring proper handling of Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs)

  • Manage pharmaceutical inventory processes including receiving, quarantining, picking, packing, and stock control

  • Enforce occupational health and safety regulations within the pharmaceutical environment

  • Report and escalate any out-of-specification findings to the Quality Assurance Manager

  • Restrict unauthorised access to pharmaceutical areas, especially outside operational hours

  • Ensure availability of a qualified pharmacist or locum during absences

Quality Management System (QMS) Administration

  • Maintain ISO 13485 certification and oversee documentation related to QMS compliance

  • Develop, manage, and improve QMS procedures to meet internal and regulatory requirements

  • Compile QMS reports, manage CAPAs, and facilitate management reviews

  • Promote QMS awareness across all operational areas and coordinate QMS training

  • Schedule and lead internal QMS meetings and maintain complete QMS documentation and records

  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities and corrective actions within operations

Training and Staff Management

  • Plan and deliver QMS and compliance-related training

  • Maintain training records in line with organisational procedures

  • Ensure sufficient staffing for operational needs, including succession planning

  • Manage staff performance, leave, and timekeeping

  • Identify training gaps and support development initiatives to build team capability

  • Oversee HR compliance, including record-keeping and performance appraisals

  • Maintain high levels of staff motivation, efficiency, and productivity

Auditing and Compliance

  • Schedule and conduct internal audits and manage close-out of any findings

  • Support external audits by customers and regulatory bodies

  • Ensure audit readiness and implementation of corrective actions

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 (Matric)

  • Registered Pharmacist with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
