Dischem Vacancies – Sales Assistant – Cape Town

Dis-Chem Baby City is looking for a dedicated Sales Assistant to join their team at the Bellville store. The role focuses on delivering excellent customer service, supporting point-of-sale transactions, maintaining stock levels, and ensuring the store meets high merchandising standards.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric

  • Up to 6 months of retail experience

  • At least 1 year of work experience in a retail environment

Advantageous

  • Certification in Retail Business Management

Key Responsibilities

  • Report low, damaged, expired, or out-of-stock items to management

  • Assist with stock counting and general stocktaking activities

  • Support with the loading and off-loading of stock when needed

  • Flatten and remove boxes after unpacking stock

  • Ensure shelves are fully stocked, neat, and well-presented

  • Monitor and restock items to optimise product availability and sales

  • Check that products have not reached their sell-by date

  • Maintain accurate price labels and promotional signage

  • Keep up to date with new products to provide effective customer assistance

  • Handle all merchandise with care to prevent damage or loss

  • Build stable and timely displays for monthly promotions

  • Ensure promotional materials are displayed and removed as required

  • Accurately process all customer payments, including cash, card, coupons, and vouchers

  • Make sure all items are scanned and paid for before leaving the store

  • Assist with processing loyalty card transactions

  • Deliver friendly, helpful customer service and build positive relationships

  • Address customer queries efficiently and escalate where necessary

  • Report customer compliments and complaints to management

Competencies

  • Proficient in English with strong communication skills

  • Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)

  • Good numerical ability

  • Understanding of retail operations and procedures

  • Problem-solving mindset

  • Reliable, trustworthy, and accountable

  • Effective time management

  • Strong focus on customer service
