Dis-Chem Pharmacies has an opportunity available for a qualified Security Guard to join their team. This role is responsible for delivering a professional security service that meets the Dis-Chem Group’s standards and complies with the Private Security Industry Regulations Act 56 of 2001. The position focuses on protecting people, assets, and property by maintaining a safe and secure environment across the store premises.
Minimum Requirements
Essential:

Grade 12 / Senior Certificate
-
PSIRA Grade C registration and accreditation
-
Minimum of 3 years’ security experience within a retail environment, including shopping malls or warehouses
Advantageous:
-
At least 1 year of specific experience in a similar security position
Key Responsibilities
-
Remain vigilant to detect suspicious activity and take action in line with legal authority and company protocols

Conduct regular patrols of the store premises to ensure high visibility and reduce security risks

Monitor and regulate access points, allowing entry only to authorised individuals

Identify and report any signs of damage, theft, or unlawful entry
-
Deter potential criminal activity by maintaining an alert and visible presence
-
Offer courteous assistance to customers, employees, and visitors
-
Perform access control duties, including searches of staff, suppliers, and merchandisers
-
Complete all required registers and occurrence books accurately
-
Verify and cancel staff purchases and declared items
-
Oversee refuse removal and verify processes are followed according to standards
-
Monitor the premises during opening and closing procedures, ensuring windows, doors, and taps are secure

Conduct ongoing searches of personnel and vehicles
-
Respond to and report suspicious incidents with detailed verbal and written accounts
-
Contact police or emergency services when necessary and support first responders during emergencies

Assist in evacuation procedures by maintaining order and directing individuals to safety
-
Monitor alarm systems and CCTV where applicable, especially after hours
-
Remain on-site and alert during solo night shifts or quiet trading hours
-
Offer ongoing safety guidance to staff and promote security best practices

Maintain detailed records of incidents, patrols, and unusual activities
-
Enforce Dis-Chem’s rules to prevent potential losses and maintain order
-
Assist with basic administrative duties related to the department when required
Competencies
Essential:

Knowledge of PSIRA regulations and duties
-
Basic fire emergency and Health & Safety training
-
Ability to communicate effectively in English (verbal and written)
Advantageous:

Proficiency in a third language
Special Conditions of Employment

Valid PSIRA Grade C certification and registration

South African citizenship

Clear credit and criminal record (MIE verified)

Driver’s licence and own reliable transport (with PDP when deployed as a driver)
