Dischem Vacancies – Security Guard
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for a dedicated Security Guard to join the team and ensure the safety of employees, customers, property, and assets in accordance with the Private Security Industry Regulations Act 56 of 2001. This role focuses on maintaining a secure environment through proactive surveillance, controlled access, and adherence to safety protocols.
Minimum Requirements

Grade 12 / Senior Certificate

PSIRA Grade C registration and accreditation
-
At least 3 years of experience in a retail security environment such as shopping malls or warehouses
Advantageous

Minimum 1 year of experience in a similar security role
Key Responsibilities
-
Stay alert and vigilant to identify suspicious activity and take necessary action as per Dis-Chem protocols
-
Conduct regular patrols to maintain high visibility and minimize risk
-
Monitor access points and regulate entry to authorized individuals only

Investigate signs of damage, unlawful entry, or suspicious incidents and report them to management
-
Serve as a visible deterrent to prevent theft, property damage, and injury
-
Conduct access control duties, including searching staff, suppliers, and merchandisers
-
Complete and maintain occurrence books and other registers accurately
-
Supervise refuse removal and verify staff purchases
-
Ensure all entry and exit points are secured during opening and closing procedures

Perform daily frisking and vehicle inspections
-
Respond swiftly to emergencies and assist first responders and relevant teams

Monitor CCTV and alarm systems, especially after hours
-
Control crowds and maintain order during emergency evacuations

Provide safety tips and security guidance to staff when required

Take detailed notes of unusual occurrences and daily activities

Respond appropriately to dangerous or emergency situations by contacting law enforcement or emergency services

Enforce Dis-Chem’s rules and security protocols to prevent incidents before they occur
Competencies
-
Knowledge of PSIRA regulations

Familiarity with emergency procedures and Health & Safety protocols

Strong command of the English language (written and spoken)

Ability to assess risks quickly and respond effectively

Detail-oriented with strong observation skills

Good communication and interpersonal abilities
Advantageous

Proficiency in a third language
Special Conditions of Employment

PSIRA Grade C accreditation and valid registration

South African citizen
-
Clear criminal and credit record (MIE verified)

Valid driver’s license, own transport, and PDP if required to drive
