Dis-Chem Pharmacies has a vacancy for a Security Guard to provide a professional security service in line with the Private Security Industry Regulations Act 56 of 2001 (as amended). The successful candidate will help ensure a safe and secure environment for staff, customers, and company assets by preventing incidents, detecting suspicious activity, and responding appropriately to security risks and disturbances.
Minimum Requirements
Essential:
-
Grade 12 / Senior Certificate
-
PSIRA Grade C accreditation
-
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a retail security role (e.g., malls or warehouses)
Advantageous:
-
1 year experience in a similar security position
Key Responsibilities
-
Maintain a high level of alertness to identify suspicious behavior and respond to incidents according to company procedures
-
Conduct regular patrols across the premises to enhance visibility and reduce security threats
-
Monitor and control access at entry and exit points for both pedestrians and vehicles
-
Ensure only authorised individuals are allowed on-site
-
Report and act upon signs of damage or unlawful activity to protect company assets
-
Maintain a visible presence to deter theft, damage, or misconduct
-
Interact professionally with customers, staff, and visitors
-
Conduct staff and supplier searches where required
-
Accurately maintain security registers and occurrence books
-
Verify and cancel staff purchases as per company policies
-
Supervise refuse removal processes
-
Remain at your designated post while on duty and follow all post instructions
-
Provide excellent customer service when engaging with internal and external stakeholders
-
Monitor store access during opening and closing procedures
-
Ensure that all windows, doors, and taps are securely closed at end of day
-
Conduct regular personnel and vehicle checks throughout your shift
-
Provide detailed verbal and written reports on any suspicious or criminal incidents
-
Alert emergency services and assist first responders as required
-
Assist during emergency evacuations, maintaining order and ensuring safety protocols are followed
-
Operate security equipment including alarms and CCTV systems
-
Perform continuous surveillance, especially during quiet hours or overnight shifts
-
Promote safety awareness and provide advice on improving site security
-
Respond swiftly and appropriately during crisis situations
-
Keep accurate records of daily activities, incidents, and observations
-
Enforce rules and policies to prevent criminal acts
-
Assist with department tasks such as taking calls and handling basic admin when necessary
Competencies
Essential:
-
Working knowledge of PSIRA protocols
-
Familiarity with emergency response procedures and health and safety standards
-
Proficient in English (read, write, speak)
Advantageous:

Ability to communicate in a third language

Valid PSIRA Grade C registration

Clear criminal and credit history (MIE verified)

Valid driver’s license and own reliable transport (PDP required when deployed as a driver)
