Value Vacancies – Senior Payroll Administrator

Purpose of the Role
We are looking for a highly experienced and detail-oriented Senior Payroll Administrator to manage the accurate and timely processing of payroll for 2,000 salaried employees and support the payroll function for an additional 2,500 weekly wage staff. The role requires full compliance with all legislative requirements and company policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage end-to-end payroll processing with a strong focus on accuracy and compliance

  • Ensure alignment with applicable legislation and the National Bargaining Council for the Road Freight and Logistics Industry (NBCRFLI)

  • Process statutory and non-statutory deductions such as garnishees, medical aid, provident fund, and bargaining council contributions

  • Manage and process leave applications, and escalate absenteeism or sick leave issues to the Group Payroll Manager

  • Provide expert payroll advice and support to the broader Group

  • Assist with external payroll audits and provide required documentation

  • Generate payroll-related reports including leave, overtime, monthly journals, and ad hoc reports

  • Ensure timely and accurate NBCRFLI submissions and reconciliations

  • Support the Wages Department in processing monthly and weekly wage payments

  • Manage onboarding and terminations, with a high volume of new appointments and exits processed monthly

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 (Matric)

  • Minimum 5 years’ payroll experience using Sage HR Premier

  • Own reliable transport

Skills and Competencies

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, formulas essential)

  • Strong analytical and numeracy capabilities

  • Proven experience managing payroll in a high-volume, large-scale organization

  • Excellent attention to detail and data accuracy

  • Strong time management and organizational skills

  • Problem-solving ability and confidentiality in handling sensitive information

  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a diverse team environment

  • Thorough understanding of payroll legislation including BCEA, NBCRFLI, Unemployment Act, and Wholesale & Retail sector agreements
