FlySafair is seeking a Senior Safety Officer AMO to lead safety oversight and compliance across our Approved Maintenance Organisation (AMO). The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in aviation maintenance, safety auditing, and regulatory compliance, ensuring operational excellence and risk mitigation in line with civil aviation requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Lead internal and external audits related to AMO safety standards and processes.
Identify latent hazards and perform risk assessments with appropriate mitigation planning.
Investigate and analyze incidents and accidents, identifying root causes and ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
Maintain the organisation’s safety data system, tracking trends in hazards, incidents, and accidents.
Oversee continuous monitoring of corrective actions and their effectiveness.
Stay updated on civil aviation industry safety concerns and assess their relevance to FlySafair’s operations.
Manage the aviation safety programme specific to AMO activities, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements.
Collaborate with the training department to ensure employees receive safety-related instruction as needed.
Investigate and report on all safety-related incidents involving company assets.
Distribute safety reports and provide weekly operational updates to the Manager: Aviation Safety.
Work with security teams to ensure integration between safety and security protocols.
Partner with the Quality Assurance department to track aircraft component reliability and oversee service provider audits.
Contribute to the emergency response plan and support compliance audits.
Distribute safety bulletins and enhance safety awareness across departments.
Conduct regular meetings on safety-related matters and ensure operability of all safety equipment.
Promote a strong safety culture through leadership, coaching, and mentorship of direct reports.
Support and develop safety staff, optimising performance and encouraging professional growth.
Assist with the implementation of the OHSE programme in collaboration with the OSHE Officer.
Build and maintain productive relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
Manage all safety-related interactions with third parties and ensure compliance in all AMO areas.
Minimum Requirements
Grade 12 or equivalent (Essential)
Minimum of 7 years in the airline/aviation sector, with at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity (Essential)
Valid or expired Aircraft Maintenance Engineer License (Essential)
Human Factors in Aviation training (Essential)
Train the Trainer qualification (Essential)
Safety Management Systems for Aviation certification (Essential)
Lead Auditor certification (Essential)
Experience in incident and accident investigation (Essential)
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills
Strong leadership and project management capabilities
Ability to manage pressure, prioritise tasks, and maintain attention to detail
Experience as a lead auditor or in accident investigation (Advantageous)
