Rand Water Vacancies – Tractor Operator

Job Summary: Rand Water is seeking a skilled Tractor Operator to operate various horticultural equipment, including tractors, to perform tasks such as plowing, mowing lawns, bailing and raking grass, fertilizing, and transporting equipment. The successful candidate will be required to work independently, driving to different sites to carry out these duties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Equipment Operation: Use a variety of horticultural equipment, such as tractors, lawnmowers, and brush cutters, for tasks including plowing, mowing, and fertilizing lawns.
  • Site Work: Drive to designated sites to perform maintenance tasks independently and efficiently.
  • Maintenance Support: Assist with weeding, loading, sweeping, and general cleaning tasks.
  • Chemical Application: Apply fertilizers, insecticides, and fungicides as required to maintain the health and appearance of landscaped areas.
  • Gardening Duties: Support Senior Gardeners in their duties when tractor work is not available.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 or NQF Level 4 qualification.
  • Valid Code 08 driver’s license.
  • Ability to pass Rand Water’s K53 driver’s test.
  • At least 3 years of experience operating a tractor.
  • 2 years of experience using a range of agricultural or horticultural implements and tractor-drawn equipment.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Firefighting and First Aid: Basic knowledge of firefighting and first aid procedures.
  • SHE Standards: Understanding of Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) practices related to the role.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Planning and Public Relations: Good planning skills and the ability to interact positively with the public.
