Cashbuild Vacancies – Trainee /Assistant Manage – Mount Frere

Cashbuild is looking for a dedicated and capable Trainee / Assistant Manager to support the Store Manager in all aspects of retail operations. This position requires strong leadership, financial acumen, and operational insight to ensure efficient store performance and a high standard of customer service.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 with a minimum of 2 years’ retail management experience

  • Valid driver’s license and own transport

  • Valid South African ID or work permit

  • Strong accounting and administrative skills

  • Ability to lead a team and work under pressure

  • Computer literacy (basic proficiency required)

  • Sound knowledge of health and safety legislation (OHSA)

  • Human resources experience, including training, recruitment, and employee relations

  • Reliable communication tools (own cellphone required)

Key Responsibilities

Strategic and Operational Management

  • Assist the Store Manager in developing and executing a store business plan aligned with company strategy

  • Support initiatives to grow market share and achieve category sales targets

  • Promote customer loyalty programs and ensure efficient advertising material distribution

  • Take proactive steps to protect and grow market presence in response to competition

Customer Experience

  • Support implementation of customer service strategy

  • Maintain customer audit results above 95%

  • Ensure prompt, reliable customer deliveries and service

  • Grow and manage VIC (Very Important Customer) accounts

  • Action feedback from customer surveys where applicable

Stock and Asset Control

  • Support the management of shrinkage, stock movement, and receiving processes

  • Assist in wall-to-wall stock takes and control of end-control processes such as inter-branch transfers and returns

  • Maintain store security standards, including equipment and IT asset care

  • Assist with managing cash operations including daily banking, petty cash, and reconciliation of shorts and overs

Human Resource Management

  • Assist with recruitment, induction, and training of employees

  • Drive development plans and career pathing aligned with succession goals

  • Ensure workforce planning meets company benchmarks

  • Promote transparent communication through structured meetings and employee engagement

  • Support the management of employee relations

Store Standards and Compliance

  • Maintain merchandising standards, housekeeping, and planogram implementation

  • Ensure yard and parking areas are well-kept

  • Comply with health and safety regulations including incident reporting and safety rep appointments

  • Assist with internal audit preparation and ensure adherence to the Cashbuild Way

Financial and Profitability Support

  • Help meet operational income targets and manage budgets effectively

  • Support application of the financial model and adherence to all benchmarks
